This whole “blog” thing seems a little weird to me, but Finn insists everyone is doing it, Bree called me a chicken, my niece Alice helped me with the technical stuff . . . and so here I am, writing a diary on the Internet, out there for God and everyone to read.
I’m Tally Jones, and I own the Remember the A-la-mode in Dalliance, Texas, where I whip up luscious French pot ice cream, sorbet, sherbet, and sundaes. You’d think I’d get sick of ice cream, working with it day in and day out. But no. Pistachio, rocky road, raspberry mascarpone, peanut butter fudge, honey vanilla bean, pralines and cream . . . hand to God, I can always make room for a scoop of something cold and creamy.
Summer comes early to Texas, and we're expecting triple digits in a day or two, so business is picking up at the A-la-mode. (Just in the nick of time, too, because I’ve sorely neglected my house this past year, and I think my hot water heater is about to give up the ghost.) In summer, I prefer cleaner fruit flavors. Strawberry, peach, cherry, blackberry, lemon ... pure notes of fruit mellowed by fresh cream is the perfect antidote to the scorching Texas sun.
Right now, I’m really digging a tropical concoction of pineapple, coconut, and banana. I sure can’t afford a beach vacation, but one bite and I can almost hear the steel drums in the distance. Just don't ask me to limbo.
What about you folks? What’s your favorite summertime cooler? What should I be adding to the menu at Remember the A-la-mode?
