Journal Entry #7, by Harlow Jane Cassidy

This has been one of those days.  Everything's upside down, from Mama's charm going haywire to finding out that two women had a thing over my granddaddy.  'Course that happened when they were teenagers, but he's my granddaddy and two women (one of 'em Nana) should have a showdown over him.

Then there's the fact that the Margaret Moffette Lea Pageant and Ball is coming up.  The Lafayette twins are not gonna be happy that I'm taking their business, but period ball gowns are not my expertise and I'm wondering if I've gotten myself in a bit too deep this time.  The dress pulley contraption Will Flores is making is gonna make everything so much easier... I hope... but pulling off these dresses would make Maximilian proud. And that's saying a lot.  A heck of a lot.

So why am I lollygagging around here?  We have the armoire to move down from the attic, and lord knows what's inside of it.  More of Meemaw's treasures.  I can't wait to see, but first the pulley.  And the dresses.  And no more thinking about granddaddy.

When was the last time YOU had one of those days?

Pleating for Mercy, the first Magical Dressmaking Mystery, available August 2nd!

  1. Well you know... it can be more than 'one of those days'... could be one of those months. Good luck with it all!!!

  2. Good luck with all that you have to do. I hate having 'one of those days'...they just drain you.

  3. I tell myself that things can only go uphill. Right. As in an uphill battle.

  4. Do you take orders for dresses? I've got a formal wedding to attend--as a guest!--in early May and would love to have something special and one-of-a-kind! Good luck getting through your day. My girls are on spring break, so it's going to be "one of those days" all week.

  7. I had one of those days yesterday! Now I'm dragging. How do you get the get-up-and-go when it's already been spent? Good luck with the new shop. It sounds wonderful!

  8. Hmm, there's something wonderfully mysterious about an armoire in an attic. Why do I think we haven't heard the last of that?

  9. I hope one of those days doesn't turn into one of those weeks...or months.

Yes, I take orders, Lila! And you're right, Mary Jane, you've not heard the last of the armoire in the attic. Sounds like an old Nancy Drew title. :)

  11. I'm having one too, Jenn. Starting with oversleeping, which threw me behind. Harlow, I can't wait to read all about your adventures. This is one of my most anticipated new books of the year.
