A Troubled Christmas

By Nina Quinn from Heather Webber’s Nina Quinn Mysteries

I know some of you may think it’s spring, but where I live it’s currently the beginning of December and the height of holiday craziness.

And crazy it is, let me tell you. My landscaping company, Taken by Surprise Garden Designs, is in the midst of an indoor makeover at Christmastowne, a new year-round indoor holiday “experience.” The best part of doing the makeover at Christmastowne is seeing my stepson Riley at work. As an elf. Some things money just can’t buy, but seeing him as an elf (albeit a slightly cranky one), is priceless.

Unfortunately, my geriatric neighbor, Mr. Cabrera, and his on-off girlfriend Brickhouse Krauss are on “off,” and he’s taken up with Christmastowne’s Mrs. Claus. You know what that means, right? Mr. Cabrera just can’t break that curse, the one where his girlfriends seem to...expire. Mrs. Claus is doomed.

But what’s really troubling me is my boyfriend Bobby’s absence. He’s out of town, tending to a sick relative. That’s not the troubling part. The troubling part is that because Bobby is gone my ex Kevin has been hanging around. A lot. And lurking under the mistletoe...

I can’t help but feel that there’s lots of trouble ahead for me. But it wouldn’t be the holidays without a little trouble, right?

  1. I hope the trouble is a small one, but what's up with Kevin coming back around?

  2. Lurking under the mistletoe? Sounds dire... I hope the troubles pass quickly for you. There's plenty of details nagging for attention when comes to landscaping. You don't need any additional trouble. Good luck!
