from The Southern Beauty Shop Mysteries by Lila Dare
Tomorrow's Thanksgiving--I refuse to call it turkey day--and I thought it'd be nice to share some of the things Lila and I are thankful for. My mom taught me years ago that an attitude of gratitude was essential for happiness and I've tried to stick with that, even during the bad years with Hank when all I could think to be grateful for was that he wasn't a wife-beating, serial killer, hedge fund manager.
This year, I'm grateful to have a job at Mom's salon, especially in an economy where lots of folks don't have jobs.
I'm thankful for friendship: Althea, Rachel, Vonda, Simone, Stella.
I'm grateful for good health, a roof over my head, privacy, freedom, and a church community that helps me feel closer to God.
I'm grateful for the ocean.
Most of all, I'm grateful for my mom who is also my best friend. I wouldn't be who I am without her in my life.
As for Lila Dare, she's grateful for healthy, joyful children; a loving and devoted hubby; the opportunity to spend her days writing about the adventures of fascinating people like Grace and Violetta Terhune; good health; living in the United States with all its freedoms; and friends, family, and church family.
What are you grateful for this year?
