Dancing your way through life

Dancing Isn’t Just for the Stars

Iced Chiffon Oct ‘12
Consignment: Murder series

Dancing is for everyone! That’s my motto.
I’m Auntie KiKi, THE dance teacher here in Savannah.

When I was born the angels chanted cha-cha-cha over my crib and turned me into a dance teacher. When my sister Gloria was born the angels chanted follow the elephant and turned her into a staunch Republican and conservative judge. I sure got the better end of that deal.

In college I took a year off and was a roadie for Cher. One of the best years of my life! Who else is on stage with six sequined-clad dancers, two drag queens, a mechanical bull and has twelve costume changes. To this day I still spew forth Cher-isims, my favorite being If you really want something, you can figure out a way to make it happen.

I teach dancing to all the debutants and couples wanting to spruce up their skills for a cruise or their fiftieth wedding anniversary party. I even teach a belly dancing class once in a while but since I love my martinis and deserts my belly does a lot more dropping than dancing these days.

But no matter what, I love to dance. Fact is, I sort of two-step my way through life even when hunting around for some low-rent, scum-sucking killer who’s hell-bent on getting away.

So, what about you? Ever take a dance lesson as an adult or a child? Do you find yourself doing a little two-step of your own from time to time? Did you make your kids take dance lessons no matter how much they kicked and screamed?

Let me know if you dance your way through life. I’ll give away a ten-dollar gift card to Starbucks from the answers.

Happy Dancing and Hugs,
Auntie KiKi

  1. I love to dance, too, and recently danced with such a dreamy partner that I'm signing up for classes.

  2. Wow, Edna. How fun is that. You'll have to keep us posted. Always nice to have a hot partner!

  3. I took a dance class years ago. What fun! I loved it. I'm still not good at anything but the swing. Must have been born in the wrong decade!

  4. I have rhythm---but my feet don't. Mother made me take tap dance lesson when I was young and it was a disaster. I'm afraid I turned out more like your sister, but not a Republican---a liberal accountant!!

  5. I dance though you could say I have two left feet. I don't care that I'm not any good, I enjoy it and it makes me happy. So call me Elaine from Seinfeld and I'll dance on :-)

  6. I love to dance and attended an event last Saturday. The Grape Vine and The Medallians played and I danced all night. Was great fun. When I was young I wanted to be a "June Taylor" Dancer (from Jackie Gleason show) but am only 5' tall and dancers had to be 5'5 or 5'6. I turn on music and dance at home. Great exercise.

  7. I love to dance, but it's been a while...other than zumba :-) And trust's not pretty!

  8. Sorry I wasn't around yesterday. Had to work at the Snooty Fox...consignment shop. :-)
Kari, I do Zumba too. My answer to dancing but I'm not very good at It

  9. Oh, I was sick in bed for 4 days so missed this. But just have to comment to Aunt Kiki. I used to love to dance - '60s rock-n-roll, loved the '40s swing music, did the ballroom stuff as a college pe class (really - and it was fun). But I took ballet and tap as a child, and didn't like it much. Oh, and by the way, that was in Savannah..... Wasn't you, was it, Kiki? No, didn't think so. That was the 1950s, and you were probably standing next to me, not up there teaching it:)

  10. I love to country dance and also enjoy ballroom dancing! Waltz dancing, and Swing dancing is so much fun!

  11. Yay!! I won a Starbucks Gift Card. Thank you so much. I have never been to Starbucks or drank any of their brews but am looking forward to going. Since I retired I stay at home a lot and just read great blogs and many books.
