A "Super" New Cover!
By Pepper Martin, world’s only PI to the dead, and heroine of the Pepper Martin mystery series by Casey Daniels
Well, she’s done it again. Casey is off gallivanting–this time to a wedding in Virginia–and I’m left holding the fort, not to mention the responsibility for today’s blog.
Typical Casey. Well, I figured I’d show her a thing or two. Rather than blog about the ramifications of the paranormal in modern mysteries (her suggestion and a big ho-hum if I do say so myself), I thought I’d give you a peek at the cover of "Supernatural Born Killers," my ninth adventure which will be out on store shelves on September 4.
Pretty cool, yes?
Now, if Casey was here, she’d say to keep my mouth shut about what the book’s all about. She’d say to make readers wait, to draw out the excitement, and keep them guessing.
But hey, Virginia is a long way from Cleveland, and I saw her packing a bottle of wine (one of the big ones). If she can have a little fun, so can I.
So gather ‘round, and I’ll tell you a story. Or at least the story of a story.
You see, back in 1932 here in Cleveland, two kids with great imaginations and talent named Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created an American icon–Superman. Since Casey loves to play with Cleveland history, it was only natural that she tap into the mythos of the Man of Steel for this installment in the series.
What does that have to do with me? Well, I’ve been promoted, you know. I’m now community relations manager at the historic cemetery where I work, and one of the town’s biggest philanthropists (boy, how we’d like to get him as a patron!) happens to have a killer collection of Superman memorabilia.
Of course in my world, nothing’s as simple as just going after a rich donor. I’ve got ghosts to contend with, one of whom is my on again/off again boyfriend’s former partner on the police force.
What’s that you asked? Why am I wearing a wedding dress on the cover?
Well, for once in my life, I’m actually going to listen to Casey’s advice. Rather than spill the juicy details, I’m going to make readers wait, draw out the excitement, and keep you guessing!
