Tis the Season to be Scary... (Double book giveaway to one lucky commenter)

THE FORTUNE TELLER MYSTERIES by Kari Lee Townsend
Sunny Meadows vents!

Hi, everyone. I know what you're all thinking. Tis the season to be merry is the saying. Well, let me tell you. Lately it feels a whole lot more like tis the season to be scary.

Why you say?

Because I'm pretty darn close to murdering a certain someone.

Yup, you guessed it. One dark, brooding, ornery, cynical detective. Mitch is no help at all around the holidays, I'm finding out. You see this is my first year in Divinity, New York. I love the town. It's small and quaint and charming. The perfect place to open up my fortune-teller business.

Mostly perfect, anyway.

Mr. Grumpy pants is driving me crazy! In book one, we really don't like each other. I am a fortune teller, and he is a non-believer. Except there's so much chemistry between us, we can't help but grow on each other.

Then in book two we actually decide to give "us" a chance. Maybe even go on a real date. Except my Granny Gert is always stirring up trouble, and my cat Morty doesn't like Detective Stone, and my parents won't butt out and stay home where they belong.

However, I decided to put all that aside for the sake of the holidays. Christmas. My favorite time of year. Only the grump butt doesn't see the point in decorating. It's too much work and then you just have to take it down and he's busy keeping the streets safe, blah blah blah. He won't shop with me, either. Something about crowds not being his thing. He is enjoying Granny's cookies, though. (Granny has a cookie for everything), and he did try to help me wrap.

Ha! Sooooo not pretty.

6 days left until Christmas. Definitely not merry and totally scary! I'm terrified I won't finish in time. So tell me, is Christmas merry or scary to you? Are you done or still scrambling like me? Ready to kill someone yourself? Please make me feel like I'm not alone and leave a comment.

Since we're having such a cozy Christmas here at Killer Characters, please leave a comment to win an autographed copy of BOTH books 1 and 2. TEMPEST IN THE TEA LEAVES (and) CORPSE IN THE CRYSTAL BALL. If you have a problem leaving a comment, you may send it to me at karileetownsend@gmail.com

If you already have the books, then give them away. Tis the season of giving :-) And remember, book 3 TROUBLE IN THE TAROT comes out on March 5th. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all the characters in the Fortune Teller Mystery series.          www.karileetownsend.com

  1. For the first time in my life, I have my shopping finished and presents wrapped. Having the presents wrapped is really amazing since I am usually doing this Christmas Eve.

The really like your series and have read both books, but I would love to win them to give away.

  3. I wont be going to visit my family till the weekend after Christmas so I actually have more time to shop and wrap--of course being on call for 4.5 days can put a damper on the whole thing!

    Both books sound great

    1. Bummer. Being on call during the holidays stinks. Hope you find a way to be merry anyway.

  4. My shopping is done (I buy things throughout the year) most of it shipped off. However, I have some crafting projects that I need to finish as gifts. And I can't find necessary supplies. Ugh. I also haven't had much holiday spirit this year-so, while the outside decorations have been up and lit since the day after Thanksgiving I don't have much inside-aside from the Christmas tree.

  8. I've learned to just relax, do what I feel like doing .... as we get older and our families pass away, it's easier to spend time with people in Nursing Homes, Hospitals that don't have anyone! Just do what you want and not what everyone else wants and life is just so much easier! Half of what we insist on doing never needed to be done! Thanks for sharing with us and Merry Christmas!

I just have to deliver gifts to my co workers which I will do today. Otherwise I am finished. We will go out of town, this weekend to spend the holiday with a daughter and son in law. I do a lot of ordering on Amazon and I don't do much baking. I would agree with Anonymous, as we get older, Christmas can be rather scary because our families move away and as they get families of their own, they have other obligations. Some times holidays are spent alone.

    1. My oldest is just getting ready to head off to college next year :-( As crazy as my house is, I don't want ANY of them to go! I'm going to be a mess when they all leave. Guess I'll just have to write more books to take my mind off it :-)

  10. Santa wraps his presents at my house. That still has to be done. I enjoy an hour or so of the last minute shopping to get small stocking stuffer items. But the main "Santa" presents are at home hidden. Christmas is a fun time of year with my children - even though they are teenagers. They still enjoy of the magic of not knowing what Santa will leave under the tree.

Kari, I have read so much good things about your series that I just picked up the first book. Can't wait to start it.

  14. So far Christmas is Merry. I have most of the shopping done but I always try to go out for one last thing on Christmas Eve. The shoppers on Christmas Eve always have a different vibe. 31. This year Christmas isn't that hectic. We all decided to get presents only the small children (and I'll buy for my own kids) and I won't be hosting this year so don't have to cook - and clean house on top of that! I went through all that at Thanksgiving so it will be a nice switch to put my feet up this holiday and get to actually talk with everyone - not serving a dish, preparing the coffee, cleaning up dinner table, putting out dessert...etc...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. We should all take time to do that. Put our feet up and enjoy our families. Our lives in general involve scrambling. I think we sometimes forget to slow down and just embrace the spirit.

      Delete
  32. Almost done ... now for hiding the presents from the kids! They like to snoop! Just have a cross stitch project to finish and frame and cookies to bake! It all goes too fast though. I love this time of year! Happy Holidays!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Surprisingly mine don't like to snoop. My sister wraps the gifts as soon as she gets them. Then she assigns each kid a "secret" number and puts the number on the gift. That way even if they snoop, then won't know which gift is their's because they don't know what their number is. Then on Christmas eve she puts on the gift tags that match the numbers :-) Genius! Only knowing me, I'd forget who had what number and have to unwrap to find out. Haha.

  33. Christmas is usually merry for me, I get to visit my parents and see my sister and my niece which I rarely get to anymore. I don't particularly enjoy shopping for Christmas it can be very hectic. Not to mention that I have to worry about getting the right kind of present for people. I do enjoy decorating and putting together the tree though. That being said, I have to finish my christmas shopping in the next two days!

    Happy holidays :D

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I love decorating the tree, too. We put on Christmas music and decorate...we being my daughter and myself. The boys just carry up the boxes. They all want it done, but no one wants to do it except her. We are addicted to Christmas movies, too. Drives my boys nuts, but I love love love them! Especially since they most always have a romance and my daughter and I are the only two girls in the house. Hee hee....chick flicks for a whole month! Gotta love that :-)

  36. Thank you, Kari, for your email. It only took me 18 days to figure out I was commenting on the wrong webpage! :) I used to stay up half the night wrapping presents when I had a child at home or a grandchild nearby. Now they're in their 40s, in the Marines, in Hawaii, in the next county, in their 20s...It's just not the same. So in my 60s, Christmas is neither scary nor exactly merry, but somewhere in between. But I have tons of flashbacks and I live in a senior complex with three Christmas trees so I definitely partake of the festivities. We've already had our holiday dinner and folks will start heading out for their other friends and families and I'll just pick up a holiday book I've been looking forward to reading.

  37. Oh my gosh...I love Christmas, too! But the hustle bustle can get the best of me. Feeling stressed is no way to spend the season! I have a new job that is stretching me too thin. 1. Awww Lynne, I hear ya. Life is insane for me. Thank goodness my kids are all in school and hubby works, so I get the house to myself. I take a moment of silence every day :-) Then it's me time, although with deadlines, I'm still working all the time. But I get to work in my pj's! Then from 2pm on, it's homework, dinner, sports, etc. With a little relaxing TV time in the evening with the hubby only to start all over again the next day.

Still...I've got it pretty good. Every time I whine, I just think of so many others who are not so lucky.

I lost my Mom 3 years ago and she was the ultimate holiday person. The only family have left is the family from hell that I would never spend holidays. Xmas would never be the same so I ignore the holidays. I take a little trip, enjoy sightseeing and restaurants and of course, bookstores! Xmas day I will be relaxed, happy and visitng a coastal town in California without a care in the world. Which of couse will save me from being Ms. Grumpy Pants and make me very happy.
