The Usual Muddled Middle

By Hayley Snow from the Key West Food Critic Mysteries by Lucy Burdette

My writer and I have tearing around Key West for the last month, trying to come up with a story for the fourth book in the Key West series. We thought you might like to hear a little about it...

I'm not allowed to say much this early, but I can give you a few hints...we've been eating, of course. Key lime pie, always.

And here's a fabulous Cuban pork roast dinner we enjoyed at Paseo's, a newish restaurant that seems to be really catching fire.

And we've made a couple of trips to the Hemingway House, where it may end up that my best friend Connie will get married. The place is crawling with polydactyl cats, including Olivia de Havilland, who lives in the bookstore--it's not a bad life!

We also took a boat ride around the island, checking out places where a teenage kid might flee on a jet ski. This place looked even spookier in person.

And last but not least, we're signed up to attend the Key West Citizen's Police Academy. I have a feeling they aren't going to know what's hit them....

The third Key West mystery, TOPPED CHEF, will be on shelves May 7. You can pre-order the book today. And then follow Lucy on Twitter, or Facebook, and Pinterest too. And our recipes are featured every week at Mystery Lovers Kitchen.

  1. I wish my author would let me help plan what's going to happen to me. I never know what's going to hit next, and then *I* have to get out of some pretty horrendous predicaments!

  2. Willow, it's not like she asks my opinion:). I'm just along for the ride...and then when trouble comes--and it always does--she steps out and leaves it to me to handle!

  3. I love to hear there are more books coming in the series. It always makes me feel better when I get to the end of a book to know another is coming - even if I have a LONG wait for it! Or maybe it just feels like a LONG wait to me.

  4. I know exactly what you mean Susie--it's like losing good friends when a series ends--for the writer too:).

  6. I enjoy this series so much and am anxiously awaiting the next in the series. Its so fun to read and it really gives the reader a feeling they are in Florida, having these adventures and eating the fabulous foods. Well Done.!! I love how the main character moves forward in her life in each book and has such interesting experiences with a fun mystery to figure out. Its pre ordered and I can't wait. I hope you will have many more to come in this series.
