Fourth of July weekend, and things are hopping here in Put-in-Bay, Ohio. But then, what did I expect? Put-in-Bay is the heart of the South Bass Island community and South Bass Island is called the Key West of the Great Lakes!
Plenty of sunshine. Plenty of water sports. Plenty of fishing. And of course, plenty of restaurants and bars where tourists from all over the region hang out to enjoy our island hospitality.
How do I know? Well, I just happen to be the proprietor of the island’s best (my opinion, of course!) B&B.
I’ve found my bliss here on this little chunk of Paradise, taking charge at the monstrosity of a Victorian home that I’ve restored to perfection. Sure, guests can sometimes be a little demanding, but that’s all part of the job, right? And I’ve got a crackerjack staff to help with things like the cleaning and the cooking.
That leaves me time to soak in the local atmosphere and believe me, after years of living in Manhattan, it’s this peace-and-quiet lover’s dream come true.
That dream never included the fact that even Paradise can have a downside. Like the neighbors who don’t always see eye-to-eye, the magistrate who sentenced those neighbors (including me) to be a book discussion group so we’d stop bickering and start talking, and of course, the murder.
A dead restaurant owner and suspects galore. Not exactly my idea of the perfect Paradise. But as it turns out, the League of Literary Ladies has more going for it than just book discussions, and none other than Agatha Christie to lead us through our investigation.
Paradise? Maybe not. But the League of Literary Ladies . . . we’re working on it!
