From the moment I met her I knew she was trouble. When a good looking New York City dressed woman leans into your small town PD black and white squad car early in the morning on September first, displaying a pleasing amount of cleavage purely by accident, as a cop, you know you're in deep. You might say my spidey senses were tingling, but the tingle could have been something else.
And then she told me who she was, the Wynter heir, Merry Wynter, and that she was looking for Wynter Castle. She clearly had no clue why I went expressionless, but there is a long and troubled history between Wynter Castle and the citizens of Autumn Vale. Added to that was the fact that I knew what she was going to find there. I was torn between being troubled that I hadn't been able to figure out who was doing the damage, to wanting to see her face when she first laid eyes on it.
All I know is, Merry Wynter is a looker, but I'm not going down that road. No sirree. No matter how much I'd like to, and no matter how much people seem to be trying to push us together, I can't afford the distraction.
And what a distraction she is; tall and curvy, long dark hair, sexy voice, smart and sophisticated, all combined in a way I've never met before.
But there is the little matter of the murder, on her property, of a guy I once called 'friend'. Who killed Tom Turner? That's what I need to know. So I most certainly cannot afford to get distracted. There is something going on in Autumn Vale. I've felt it for some time, but everyone keeps telling me to chill. I'm the sheriff; I can't afford to chill.
What about you? Yeah, you out there reading this? Do you ever get a feeling something's going on? You know it, but you can't put your finger on what it is? I don't believe in intuition, but I've been a cop for some time, and there is definitely something rotten in Autumn Vale, New York.
