End of Summer

By:Celadon Greene
Book Title: Drizzled with Death
Series: The Sugar Grove Mysteries
Publication Date: October 1, 2013

It's the end of summer here in Sugar Grove, NH and that means trying to fit in all those things you meant to do but didn't quite get round to yet. It means marshmallows over the back yard fire pit and staying up too late just a few more times. We'll head to the lake for a final few pleasant dips before the cold weather comes to stay.

It also means back to school shopping for clothes and supplies. Outings to the mall may be the norm is many places but we are lucky in Sugar Grove to have local stores that meet most of our needs. In fact, it is a tradition in the Greene family to go to Bartleby's Department Store for back to school shopping. I'll take my children, Spring and Hunter there later this week.

We'll roam up and down the wide aisles with their polished wood floors looking for shoes, trousers and shirts just like I did as a child with my mother and siblings. Once we've made our selections and had them wrapped in tissue and slipped into study paper bags with twine handles we'll head to the stationery shop for notebooks and pens.

By the end of the day we'll all be tired and ready for a final ice cream cone of the season at the Dream Boat ice cream parlor. I'll know just how old the kids are really getting to be when one of them asks for a frappe instead of a cone with sprinkles. I hope that doesn't happen for at least a few years yet!
