Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is just a few days away. Over the years, I’ve found this is the one holiday some people hate and others embrace. Regardless on which side you fall, who better to spend the holiday of love with than the one who loves you unconditionally—your beloved pet.
Please don’t tell my assistant, Betty, what I’m about to share. She already thinks I give away too much business and is convinced that without her, I’d have to close Bow Wow’s door in a Texas minute. But the truth is, you don’t have to empty your bank account to show your four-legged best friend the extent of your love.
Your pet doesn’t expect you to buy them expensive jewelry, dorky stuffed animals, ridiculously overpriced flowers that will die in a week, or to dress up for dinner at a posh restaurant. Thank goodness chocolate isn’t even an option.
Unconditional love and your time is all they want. Cuddles and dog-kisses. A walk on the beach, or a car ride with the windows down. A rousing game of fetch or a laser light to chase. Head scratches and belly rubs while you reassure them they are the love of your life.
And for those of you who have pets of the feline persuasions, cats (at least my cousin Caro’s cats, Thelma and Louise) seem to like curling up in boxes and popping out of paper bags. And my personal favorite—pronouncing judgment over all of my cousin’s actions. (This is why I have a dog.)
Bottom line, I believe that as much as my bulldog, Missy, fills my heart with joy, I do the same for her. She makes me smile, and I make her tail wag. Honestly, what more could I ask for on Valentine’s Day?
Do you have any special plans for your furry friends this Valentine’s Day?
