Baby It's Cold Outside...

PERIL FOR YOUR THOUGHTS
Kari Lee Townsend

Kalli Ballas speaks!

Baby it's cold outside. I'm Kalliope Ballas, but everyone calls me Kalli. I come from a big Greek family. I'm not Greek. I'm adopted. My poor parents only have me, so of course they are overprotective and want to shower all kinds of affection on me. The problem is I'm a slightly ocd germaphobe who doesn't like to be touched.

Although, Detective Nik Stevens, my new neighbor, is quite attractive, I must say. He's half Greek, but for our mamas, that's Greek enough.
He's not perfect, though, that's for darn sure. His St. Bernard keeps breaking through our fence, destroying my herb garden, and terrifying my calico cat. And when he's not messing with my plants, Mother Nature is. This is supposed to be spring, people. Where is the sunshine? My garden doesn't have a clue what to do with itself. One minute it's eighty degrees and the next we're waking up to a frost on the ground.

What's a gardener to do?

I've given up on trying to make sense of it all. Do any of you have tips on how to handle this crazy weather?

  1. I had to laugh at your last sentence!!! Too funny ! We have a week of hot...now we go back to the wood stove and covering the flowering berries and trees at night!! No...I have no tips ..just- with Mother Nature, you learn to go with the flow....it will get hot,,and stay hot!! Just as it will get cold and stay cold, again....April, May, Sept., Oct., I call back and forth months.I know those are the times I will be in shorts..then flannels, then shorts..then on and on...or, in reverse! eventually, I will be wearing one type of clothing...for a period of time!! Gardeners..have to be tolerant..patient, and have a lot of "oh well", in their back pocket!!!

  2. I wore a winter coat for the early morning dog walk. Maybe I will be in shorts this afternoon. Maybe not. I make too many clothes, so changing several times a day helps me make certain to wear each one more often (but not for as long, I guess...)

  3. It isn't worth packing the winter clothes away for the short summer we have. Keep capris and long slacks hanging side by side in your closet and wear sandals as long as possible into the fall is my method. And keep the snow shovel next to the lawn mower.

  4. Nancy! I am the same as you! so far, this year, the winter clothes are cleaned..but yet to be packed away! We had a great week, a while ago..hot as heck and loving it..then it dropped 40 degrees over night! I went to the grocery the next day, dressed to the teeth in winter wear..but determined to wear my sandals! I was so mad at Mother Nature!!!!

  5. I just switch ends of my closet, farthest in goes the seasonal I won't be wearing, closest to the door what I will , not perfect , but at least I don't have to pack and unpack :)
