Meg from the By the Spoonful Soup Shop
Summer
is here! During June and July, the authors of Killer Characters are having a Cozy Days of Summer Giveaway!
There will be a winner every day. Leave a
comment before midnight on June 15th to be entered to win a copy of A Roux of Revenge by Connie Archer. Don't forget to leave your email so that we can notify you!
Hi everyone ~
Well, I’m happy to say I’m in a much better mood these
days. You see, I’ve had a big problem
for a long time. I’ve appeared in all
three of the Soup Lover’s Mystery books.
Just in case you haven’t noticed me before, I’m at the By the Spoonful
Soup Shop every day, waiting on tables, loading the dishwasher, listening to
Janie’s problems and Lucky’s problems and Jack’s too. But to tell you the truth, I have definitely
felt . . . overlooked, taken for granted.
And then one day, it just dawned on me! I didn’t have a last name. No wonder I felt like a wallflower. My author, Connie Archer, had never given me
one! Can you believe that? When I asked her about it, she was
well . . . frankly . . . flummoxed. She told me it just hadn’t occurred to her!
So I put my foot down.
I told her I wasn’t coming back to the Spoonful until I had a last
name. I gave her some time to come up
with one that I’d approve of, but she still didn’t suggest any. (Don’t tell anyone this, but she told me she
was having a problem inventing one.
Nothing really appealed to her.)
I ask you – how can I be a character if I don’t have a
complete name? What does that mean?

You’ll say, okay, but what did you do about it, Meg? I’ll tell you what I did. I went out into cyberspace. Me!
That’s right. I complained LOUDLY
about my predicament to Dru Ann, a sympathetic soul, just a few weeks ago on another blog!
I shamed my author into running a contest for me, to give me
a last name and it worked! A lovely
woman named Elisa Varey came up with a last name that my author liked and I
liked too.
Wanna hear what it is???
It’s Findly. Sort of simple and
maybe some people will think it’s plain, but I like it a lot. It suits me.
So that’s my name now – Meg Findly.
And to sort of smooth my ruffled feathers, my author is giving me a
pretty big part in Book No. 5 (yet to be titled) of the Soup Lover’s Mystery
series.
I guess complaining did the trick, huh? What do you think of my new last name? I’d love to hear your comments.

Hi Meg. I'm new to Connie's books. But, I did read a Roux of Revenge. I really liked it. I'm glad that you are going to have a big role in the upcoming book. I hope things work out for you.
ReplyDeleteOh, it's very exciting for me! I'm really involved in the mystery in Book #5. I can't say much more, it might be a spoiler but I play a very big role when a famous mystery writer comes to Snowflake! I hope you'll read all about it, Kim! Thanks for coming by today!
DeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristin! Glad you could stop by! Did you like Meg's name?

ReplyDeleteDelAnne
InspirationalAngel@hotmail.com
Oooo, I hadn't thought of that. Of course, my first full name is Margaret, that's what my mother named me, but Meg has always suited me better. I'll have to bring that up with Connie. Hopefully, she won't have such a hard time with that!
ReplyDeleteI think Margaret Ann flows well. I think I have read all the books in your series.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue ~ Yes, I like Margaret Ann ~ if you've read all three in the series so far, that's great. There are more to come. I hope you'll come back to Snowflake, VT next time!
DeleteFindly is a fine choice, a fine last name that goes well with Meg! Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy of A Roux of Revenge—I would love to read this book!

Hi Kiki ~ Nice to hear from you! I like Meg Findly a lot! (And I'll tell Connie that too!). Good luck today!
DeleteFindly is a lovely last name for a fictional character. Simple and easy to remember.
ReplyDeleteHi Janet ~ It is nice, isn't it? And it really suits me too. I'm not a fancy character, I've just been sort of THERE in every book, so my new name and my new adventures really make me feel important! Good luck today!
DeleteI would've stuck with NOT having a last name....after all, many famous people have no last names also, like Madonna, Cher, Prince.....& some are known by just one name, even tho they have a 'complete' name, like Kobe, Gretzky & LeBron.......
ReplyDeletebut if you feel better with a 'complete' name, then YAY YOU!!!!!
I do, I really do feel better. Now I'm just like everyone else in Snowflake, VT. I mean it's a small village. We don't really have any celebrities in town and I'm still not really a celebrity. Well, hey! Maybe I will be when #5 comes out. Good luck today!
DeleteA lovely name which is ideal. elliotbencan(at)hotmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! It just kinds of rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? Meg Findly . . . good luck today!

ReplyDeleteKjohnson952@yahoo.com
I'm excited too. Just wish I didn't have such a long wait, but I'll be in Book #4 too (even though my name doesn't happen there yet). Good luck with the giveaway!
DeleteI love this series and I love the name ! Can't wait to read this latest installment !
ReplyDeletekathambre@yahoo.com
Thank you, Kathy! I've been practicing writing my new name. I can do a fancy "Y" at the end now. I think it makes my signature look more distinguished. So glad you stopped by today. Good luck!!!
DeleteOne of my favorite series! I'm looking forward to the next!
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa! Thank you ~ it's a wait till they release the next one. Meg's impatient too!

DeleteHi Meg! I like your name - and ask Connie to select Ann for your middle name, it's my middle name too (and that of both of my daughters and 2 of my granddaughters and one granddaughter's first name - I guess we like Anns! :-) ).
ReplyDeleteI just finished visiting Snowflake in A Broth of Betrayal so am ready to jump into A Roux of Revenge. Can't wait to read more about you in book 5.
Thank you! Yes, I think Ann would be a lovely middle name. Maybe I can even get a chance to mention it in Book #5. I didn't t have a big part in A Broth of Betrayal, but I am there every day, at the restaurant. I hope you like the story of my adventure in #5 too! Good luck in the giveaway!
