Tis the Season to be Murdered...

The Fortune Teller Mysteries
by Kari Lee Townsend

Sunny Meadows here...

I'm a fortune teller in the small town of Divinity NY and sometimes I help the police out as a consultant. October gives me chills, November fills me with thanks, and December is full of thrills. Tis the season to be merry. I just love giving to others, don't you?

As much as I love the holidays, they can be stressful. Decorating, baking, sending out cards, buying gifts, wrapping presents. Tempers rise and murder is in the air. I've seen it in the future, so I am being extra careful in trying to keep the peace.

I'm easy to buy for and so are most of my loved ones, but my  mother is not! She puts the P in picky and definitely pushes people to think of murder. Just wait until you check out my next book PERISH IN THE PALM coming in 2015. You'll see exactly what I mean when she winds up as the main suspect in a murder investigation as she shows up in town to help with my best friend's wedding. But family's family, for better or worse until death do us part.

So tell me, what do you buy for your "difficult" loved one? I need help, people.

Leave a comment for a chance to win a book of your choice from my website www.karileetownsend.com and check back tomorrow to see if you've won. Good luck and happy holidays ;)

  3. My husband has always been the difficult one to buy for. I try to listen, though the year, to learn of things he might like and keep those in mind, when it comes time to shop. As for my daughters and son in laws, I find Amazon.com "wish lists" are the best invention! I remind them to update their list and do my shopping from them. dbahn@iw.net

  10. I go with gift cards, mainly because they are easier to send, but then they can get what they want.

  16. Hi Kari,
As of yesterday all the holiday shopping is done. We have gifts for all the grandchildren (11 of them) and we'll hand them out tomorrow night at the Family Chanukah party. The parents of these rugrats all get checks (from us and also great grandpa).

Kari, if I'm the lucky one I'll take author's choice of any book BUT the Sunny series since I have them all already.

  20. My son and his wife love gift cards to their favorite restaurant. It's always difficult to know what to buy my 93 year old mother. And as for my grandsons, I take a peek at their letters to Santa to get a few hints. My husband has me under the Christmas Tree! What more could he possibly want!

  22. One last gift card to get, then we're done. On to the wrapping. I agree with several others that both food gifts or gifts of time are nice for some of those picky people.!

  24. Having the hardest time commenting for some reason, hopefully you won't have three answers from me.

Most of the time that someone is hard to buy for is that they have all they need and/or want so I think a donation to a charity they support is a great gift.

  26. For some difficult folks, I get gift cards, for others I search until something pops out. However, my mother really doesn't need or want anything, so this year I'm entirely stumped.

  33. When I think of people who are difficult to buy for, I think food, especially local food. You know, those delicacies you can only get in a certain area. I'd give orange chocolate or sponge candy. Perhaps Weber's mustard or local jams and such. If there is a dietary issue....gift card!

  34. I find that the teens are the hardest to buy for. So will give them a g/c to clothing store I know they like to shop at. Also have one that loves to read, but never know which books she might already have. So that one gets a g/c from Barnes and Noble.

  35. I usually get a couple of gift cards and I love them. I also like to give gift cards to those that want the "I only buy" or I only use this brand or that" If I give them a gift card they can go and get exactly what they want and they seem happy with those.

  39. Dependent on the "difficult" person, I typically give one of two things, either a gift card (Amazon as that retailer offer so many options) or a gift of my "time" which can you used for babysitting, a day out as friends, help with a project at home, preparing a meal, etc. servedogmom@yahoo.com

  41. My son is always the most difficult to buy for. But I invariably lend him a large sum of money a month or two before Christmas so his Christmas present ends up being not having to pay me back. This year it was the money to buy his Samsung Gear S Wearable Smartwatch that he had to have the day it was released.

  42. one year a person gave me a gift card to a fancy vegetarian restaurant, she drank wine, i don't, so, it seemed HUGE to me my friend and i stuffed ourselves (very happily) and took lots of food home to go. most people like to eat and it's a treat to not have to pay. what's her favorite restaurant? btw i LOVE the fortune teller mysteries!

  45. I give to a charity we each like. With my entire family dead it really makes no sense to give gifts. I request my friends do not give me gifts and I give none to them. those days are long gone. I do not decorate or get involved in Xmas. I prefer my memories of what Xmas used to be when my family was alive. I enjoy reading during the season while everyone else is running around.. I will be sitting down in my comfy chair with tea re-reading my very favorite fortune teller mysteries next week! I love this series and am so glad to hear a new release will be out next year. Blessings .

  46. My parents and in-laws are tough to buy for. If there is something they want, they buy it whenever. So, we get a group together and chat. This year, we decided that my in-laws grill needs to be replaced. Brainstorming helps us. cheers@marjimmanor.com
