from the Piece of Cake Mystery Series

This is my day, y'all. I swear, somebody created it just with me in mind. Oh I know some people don't like Valentine's Day, but those people are just poor sports. What's not to like about a day when a lady can get herself pampered and spoiled and . . . well properly appreciated?
Miss Frankie--she's my cousin you know--she says she thinks Valentine's Day is ridiculous. Have you ever heard such a thing? I know full well she only says that because her husband has passed and she hasn't managed to find herself another gentleman caller in all the time he's been gone. It's not as if she couldn't get a man's attention. She takes care of herself as best she can and she always looks nice enough--for a woman her age. Honestly, it's not my fault I'm the kind of woman men have a difficult time ignoring.
So I fully intend to enjoy the day, and if that darling Scotty Justus decides to favor me with a trinket or two, well I'm certainly not going to discourage him. I'm not difficult to please. Really, I'm not. A simple piece of jewelry, some flowers, and dinner at a nice restaurant would suit me just fine.
I heard Rita making plans (that's Rita Lucero, Miss Frankie's . . . well, I don't know what she is, really, but I suppose daughter-in-law is close enough). Anyway, she was making plans with somebody, but I don't know if she's going out with that handsome Detective Sullivan or the ragin' Cajun, Gabriel Broussard.
When I asked her which of them she was making plans with, she clammed right up. As if it were none of my business. All I wanted to do was offer her some advice on what to wear. Maybe give her a few makeup tips. I do believe Rita could be almost stunning if she'd just take a little more time with herself.
Anyway, whatever all y'all have planned for the day, whether you're going out with a new flame or an old love, spending time with family or friends, I truly do hope you have a fabulous time.
I know I will.
