Believe me, I know it’s a little crazy to talk about new year’s resolutions in May. But then, I’ve given the other members of the League of Literary Ladies–Luella Zak and Kate Wilder and Chandra Morrisey–a chance to chat with you and tell you what they’re hoping for this year.
Finally, it’s my turn.
And my resolutions for this year?
Well, I could sound like a card-carrying member of the South Bass Island Chamber of Commerce (which I am) and tell you that this year, I’m going to provide the best accommodations on the island to the folks who visit my B&B. I could tell you I’m promising that my gorgeous Victorian home is always clean and sparkly, that the food is always first-rate and that the ambiance is second to none on the island.
But that’s already true.
On a more personal note, I could resolve to keep up with the book discussion group that we call the League, but honestly, that’s not much of a resolution, either. See, we never decided to become a book discussion group in the first place. Because certain of us (I won’t name names!) were bickering and dragging each other to court, the island magistrate took care of that when he sentenced us to a year of meeting together, getting to know each other, and discussing books.
I can say with some certainty that I resolve to make sure we don’t read any more mysteries. After all, the first book we read was Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” and when we did, we ended up with our own murdery mystery to solve over at the Orient Express restaurant. From now on, we’re sticking to the classics that have nothing to do with murder.
If you ask me, that’s a perfect resolution–many more books, and no more murders!
Let’s see if we can get through 2015 with our resolutions in tact!
