A New Year! Now What?

by Chase Oliver
from the FAT CAT series by Janet Cantrell

GIVEAWAY BELOW

The Bar None did well last year, even made enough profit for Anna and me to pay bills. Since I do the bookkeeping, though, I did notice when Anna slipped extra money into the bank account when we had a tight month or two. She’s the best business partner anyone could have.

I can’t help but do a reckoning when a new year comes. What I’ve decided is that I should be a bit more organized. I know! I’ll make lists. Lots of lists. I don’t think I’ll be able to break my habit of jotting things onto sticky notes, but maybe I can work with that. I’ll organize my sticky notes.

Now, should I put my notes onto a calendar? Onto pieces of paper? Maybe labeled by month—or even week? I see I have more mental organizing to do. Come over here, Quincy. It’s a cold night in Minnesota and Dinkytown is quiet just now, the shop is closed, people are taking down holiday decorations. I have a cup of hot chocolate beside me. And now I have a warm, purring cat in my lap.

I’ll organize myself completely. Later.

It’s me, Janet, the author. I want to help you organize, too. In case you use the sticky note method, I’ll give a little stack of them to one lucky person posting today or tomorrow. I might as well throw in a copy of FAT CAT SPREADS OUT, too. (In case you have it, the next book is available for preorder!) Please either leave your email below or message me with it. I’ll pick a winner on Tuesday night and mail the goodies to you!

FAT CAT SPREADS OUT is the second mystery in the Fat Cat series. Please
check Janet’s webpage for preorder links for the third book, FAT CAT TAKES THE CAKE, coming in April.

A booth at the Bunyan County Harvest Fair seems like the perfect opportunity for Charity “Chase” Oliver and Anna Larson to promote their Bar None bakery business. Unfortunately, plus-sized pussycat Quincy has plans for their delicious dessert bars other than selling them to customers. After tearing through their inventory, Quincy goes roaming the fairgrounds in search of more delights.

But what he finds is murder. One of the top contenders in a butter-sculpting contest has been killed, and Chase is churning on the inside when she sees Quincy’s handsome veterinarian, Dr. Mike Ramos, being led away by the police. With a little help from a kitty with butter on his whiskers, Chase needs to find the real killer and clear the doctor’s good name…

Includes recipes for people and cats!

  1. Sticky notes, how did we ever live without them? We were stationed in Spain (hubby in Air Force) when they first appeared. My sister sent me a few pads of the little ones. I was thrilled! Now if I could just find a magic calendar to go with them to make me instantly organized. Thanks for the giveaway.

  6. I agree with Grandma Cootie. How did we ever live without them. Use them everywhere. Notes in books. Labeling, Notes on notes, scheduling. My son when he visits just shakes his head when he sees them. He almost always will say, "When are you going to get organized and clean up this mess" I almost always reply. Can't do much right now hon. Pesky is on my lap." (talk about convenient). I have yet to get one of the Fat Cat books, so would love to start with this one. Thank you, Janet Cantrell for this opportunity at both much needed, and wanted items. Della at deepotter@peoplepc.com

  13. As a teacher for 35+ years, I used sticky notes for everything including creating bulletin boards, using as lesson and learning tool, and collecting fun designs. I was the "sticky note" lady! Now 18 months into my retirement I have weaned myself off using only sticky notes by also using my kitchen calendar, iPad calendar and reminder apps, and a datebook. kat8762@aol.com

  46. I've been struggling with the same dilemma of ever growing sticky notes. I've narrowed it down to two choices. First, s small cork board next to the canender that has notes for the current month only. The other notes can stay stuck to the month they apply.
The other Idea is to get a medium sized planner
If you use small sticky notes, they can be purvis the left side with the canender on the right. I like this method best because it's portable.
