Leap year? If we have to have an extra day in the year, why does it have to be in February. Ugh.
And no, it’s not the winter blahs. February is a busy month for a florist, and I’m just—if you’ll pardon the expression—dead on my feet.
Not that I’m not grateful for the extra business. Without the Valentines’ rush, we might not be able to keep the doors open. And often the V-day preparations can even be fun. My cousin Liv cranks up the Ratpack on the radio. My assistant Amber Lee keeps us laughing. Our part-time workers pick up as many hours as we can allow them, and some of their friends from floral design class come in to help, too.
And Nick, my…uh…special friend…usually stops by with a sweet snack or two to keep our blood sugar up.
At least we didn’t find any bodies this month. (But that’s another story. Three of them, actually.)
But eventually the around-the-clock struggle to fill orders takes a toll. Right now I could fall asleep without any notice. Not that I’m going to. I got this. I…zzzzzzzzzz…
