Waiting for Adventure

by Betty Foxx, from Sparkle Abbey's Pampered Pet Mysteries

Hello! It’s Betty Foxx again. Cookie’s at Main Beach cleaning up with the rest of the town. Boring! I’m looking for adventure; picking up driftwood, seaweed and plastic containers isn’t my kinda party. You know what I mean?

It’s been dead quiet in Laguna the past few days. The rain has finally stopped—thank goodness. I thought we were going to have to build an ark for a minute, which wouldn’t be too bad if we filled it with Bow Wow Boutique merchandise. Plus there have been no crimes to solve. I’m antsy to find something exciting. The Citizen’s Academy might be exactly what I’m looking for.

The course is offered by the Laguna Beach Police Department and includes exercises in crime scene investigation, 911 dispatch, narcotics identification, and firearms training. Now that sounds like a good time! There are also tours of the Orange County jail and police station, which in my case would be unnecessary.

I read applications are available at police headquarters. That sexy Detective Malone would probably give me a personal recommendation if I asked him real nice like. See, I’ve helped him solve a number of high profile murder cases, like recently at the dachshund race. At first, Detective Hottie falsely accused me of murder, but Cookie and I found the real killer. We're a great team!

I wonder if they handout badges at the citizen's academy, just like the cops carry. That would be a real hoot! Have any of you attended a citizen's academy in your neck of the woods? Any advice you wanna to share?

Sparkle Abbey is actually two people, Mary Lee Woods and Anita Carter, who write the national best-selling Pampered Pets cozy mystery series. They are friends as well as neighbors so they often write at ML’s dining room table or at the Starbucks up the street. If they could write anywhere, you would find them on the beach with their laptops and, depending on the time of day, either an iced tea or a margarita.
