Friends Let Friends Talk to Their Cats! Giveaway!

By Colbie Summers Owner of Meowio Batali Gourmet Cat Food

From the Gourmet Cat Mystery Series by Kathy Krevat

I’m Colbie Summers, owner of Meowio Batali Gourmet Cat Food, and owned by my cat, Trouble.

Trouble gets a lot of the credit for my business. Of course, I do all the planning, shopping, cooking, marketing, and so much more for Meowio. But Trouble inspired the whole thing.

I found her abandoned as a tiny kitten. She had so many digestive problems that I ended up cooking for her, and then for my friends whose cats had similar issues. When people I didn’t know kept offering to buy it, my business was born.  I try lots of new recipes, and Trouble is an excellent taste-tester. I learned early on that if Trouble doesn’t like it, the product won’t sell.

Trouble goes along with me to Farmers’ Markets, wearing a tiny chef hat and sitting on a cat-sized love seat. She adores the attention from her fans, and lets me know when she’s ready to go home.

I’m not saying that she talks to me, but she does have a way of getting her message across. I find myself translating quite well. And of course, I talk to her. (She just gave me a look that so obviously says All. The. Time.)

Growing Meowio into a side business, while balancing my full time job and the needs of my twelve-year old son, Elliott, hasn’t always been easy. But as a single mom who dropped out of college, I was doing pretty well when my father came down with pneumonia and his friend convinced me to come home and help him out. So I packed up Elliott and Trouble and moved back to Sunnyside, California.

I’d been a city girl for quite a while, but small town life has its charms, especially Joss Delaney, my dad’s organic farmer neighbor. His baby chicks have enthralled Elliott while other parts of Joss have my attention.

Somehow, I was convinced to join the Sunnyside Power Moms, a group of small business owners who joined together for networking and support. And somehow, I became friends with a bunch of soccer moms.

But small towns also have secrets. And sometimes those secrets lead to murder.

Do you talk to your pets? Do they talk back? Answer the question in the comments section below for a chance to win a Kindle copy of THE TROUBLE WITH MURDER! Please include your email in this format: name (at) server (dot) com to avoid spam bots. Giveaway ends November 20 at midnight your time.

Pre-order your copy of THE TROUBLE WITH MURDER, out on DECEMBER 12 by Lyrical Underground/Kensington Books.

  5. I definitely talk my fur-baby. We have a chihuahua names Snickerdoodle. He just turned 13 and to say he's a big part of our life is an understatement. When we took our bucket list trip to the New England states 2 years ago, it took a year to plan because we had to plan the whole trip around where he could stay and his comfort as to how long to be on the road each day. Planning the trip was a lot more difficult that traveling with kids which I don't understand because kids are louder and more rambunctious than an 8 pound bundle of love. As for him talking back to me, yes he does. He can say more with his eye and movement of his body than any human can with their voice. He's very distinct about what he's saying and lets you know if no uncertain terms. Usually it's "I want my treat NOW!" LOL Thanks for the chance to win a copy of THE TROUBLE WITH MURDER.

talk back especially the mixed variety dog. He loves

  7. Loved the post! Love that cover! My girl cat's name is Pesky. She earned that name. And she definitely lives up to it most every day. And talk? Yes. She is very vocal. I tell her no. She sasses right back. And there is the body language angle. My dogs and cats are very clear in their communication. Am looking to reading this. Hoping for sooner. Rather than later. 12. I have two cats that will talk to me. I usually ask them "Are you a good boy" and "Are you doing okay today" and they will meow back. They actually answer in all different type of meows. My one cat "Jack" will respond with a low meow if I ask him "Are you a sexy guy". I crack up laughing. My "Cuddles" who has gone over the bridge was the best one to talk to me. I once was on the telephone when Cuddles and I were having a long conversation and my friend on the phone was just getting a kick out of the way Cuddles responded to me. She thought it was just amazing. My email is jcolligan@cpacrossings.com

  13. I do talk to her and she replies. But as i posted on Terrie Moran's page, our beautiful sweet kitty accidentally got out via an opened garage door last night (Saturday about 7) and despite being up all night with me calling her from our home to my husband and son walking all around the neighborhood and beyond calling her, she is still missing as of almost noon on Sunday. She is loved beyond belief
And she has been my comfort animal through three surgeries this past summer. I am an emotional wreck not knowing if she is injured and fighting for her life and too far for us to gear her crues ir ys to hear hers. We are surrounded by woods and there is real danger in them. Please have positive thoughts and prayers for ys to find our believed Roxie.

  34. At one time we had 6 cats and I talked to all of them all of the time. One, Augie, a black tuxedo, I dubbed "Baby Big Mouth" because he always had something to say! Sadly, Augie and 3 of his other brothers have crossed the rainbow bridge. Now, our two surviving kitties, Theo and Tillie, are our only furry companions. Theo has lots to say, especially that I am too slow preparing his breakfast! kim7corn (at) gmail (dot)com
