Summertime, and the Reading Is Easy!

By Laurel Inwood, from “Italian Iced,” book #3 in Kylie Logan’s Ethnic Eats Mystery Series

Summertime, right?  And the living is supposed to be easy!

Here at Sophie’s Terminal at the Tracks, that seems like an elusive dream.  Sure, it’s easy to work with our terrific staff: Sophie, my aunt and the owner of the Terminal, Inez, our efficient and personable waitress, and even George (don’t tell him I told you), our cook, who in spite of the fact that he tries to look formidable and act surly, is really a pussy cat at heart.

And then, of course, there’s Declan who manages the Irish Store across the street and is the love of my life.  Oh yeah, he helps make my life easier–and happier, too.

But then there are the murders, and they always seem to have a way of intruding on our lives here in Hubbard, Ohio.  This time, the murder is tied into my old life back in Hollywood where I was a personal chef to a mega-star, and to the Italian food we’re featuring on this month’s Ethinic Eats menu.

So I’ll tell you what, let’s go with the summertime flow, forget the grim and the gruesome, and concentrate on food!

Tell me what your favorite Italian food is and I’ll pick a winner from the comments and send out a copy of “Italian Iced.”  You’ve got until August 7 (Tuesday) close of business (5 pm EDT) to respond and I’ll post my winner the next day, August 8.

Good luck!  And enjoy your summer reading!

So we thought why not make our own and just buy the small crusts for us and build it up from there with each of our fav ingrediants I thought perfect as I like diff ingrediants than hubby and he has it mastered it well. peggy clayton ptclayton2@aol.com

  30. Been meaning to answer each and every one of your mouth-watering comments, but I've got the strangest malady...pinched the tip of my right index finger (carrying a plastic grocery bag) and I've now got a numb finger! Hard to type! All your suggestions make me so jealous, I am allergic to cheese and can't eat any of it! Will be choosing a winner later today. Stay tuned!

    1. I don't eat cheese either, Casey, but Trader Joe's makes an awesome shredded vegan mozzarella. Perfect for all those Italian dishes! If there's no Trader Joe's near you, Daiya and Follow Your Heart make good vegan cheeses too, although they tend to be pricier. And Go Veggie even has a vegan parmesan cheese, if that's your thing (I've never been a big fan of parmesan, but I have it on good authority that this is a tasty substitute!). Whole Foods stocks a good variety of all the fake cheeses.

    2. I do love Go Veggie. Not a fan of Daiya, something about the texture. Will check out Trader Joe's! Thanks for the recommendation.
