I'm Deputy Donut. I'm a cat. My human servant, Emily Westhill, named her donut and coffee shop after me, so she usually shortens my name to Dep.
Names. Who cares?
I like September. Warm sun still comes in windows, but the air outside can be crisp and tangy. Leaves drift down from trees. That can be very exciting. I know that they're leaves, not real prey, but chasing and catching them is excellent practice.
fastening dowels into a sheet of plywood and painting it what Emily says is a pretty color, and they're going to hang donuts and crullers on it for a wedding reception. I can't quite fathom what's so exciting about all of that, but maybe to them, it's excellent practice. For what, I can't tell you.
I would be happy if they merely let some of those donuts and crullers dry and harden, and then let me bat them around on the floors. They never do that.
The cranberry harvest is about to begin in northern Wisconsin. Emily takes me lots of places, but I hope she doesn't take me to the cranberry harvest. Too much water!
When Emily takes me places, like to and from work, I wear a harness and a leash. They keep me safe, she says, but I'm still not going anywhere near a flooded cranberry bog, thank you very much.

Staying away from flooded cranberry bogs is a good idea, Dep. As for favorite autumn activity, I enjoy reading outside when it gets cooler. mbradeen [at] yahoo [dot] com
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea, Marla, especially if you have a nice warm kitty to sit on your lap (or your book) and help you read! Signed, Dep.
DeleteI would not go into a cranberry bog either. I like to see the corn mazes and leaf peeking.
ReplyDeletedebby236 at gmail dot com
Debbie, can I come with you to a corn maze? I'd find a way out! Signed, Dep.
DeleteI love looking at the new fall plants in the garden shops, walking through the fallen leaves, drinking cider and baking! Of course I also love reading, while cuddled in a blanket and drinking a hot beverage. I have always wanted to visit a cranberry bog. Maybe I should put it on my bucket list!
ReplyDeleteI loved the first book in this series and I am looking forward to reading this one! Thank you for the giveaway.
debprice60@gmail.com
Those are all fun things to do, and a cat could help you do them! Signed, Dep.
DeleteI like to walk and look at the leaves. Reading in a cozy place inside is nice, too. mcastor07 (at) gmail (dot) com.
ReplyDeleteI'll join you! Signed, Dep.
DeleteI like the change in food and drink that comes with September. I start making more chili, stews and soups in my instant pot. In my crock pot I have hot cocoas, hot apple cider and warm punches. I save my oven for baking bread and treats. I like to cuddle up with my dog, (who is so very kitty friendly for awhile she thought she was a kitten), and read books. Sometimes we sit at the window and look out at the snow capped mountains of Alaska and daydream about the book we are reading. We take walks in our hoodies because the air holds a chill. When we return home, a delightful smell awaits promising warm delights for our tummies. Care to join us Dep? I make delicious pet treats, fish stew and clam chowder. As the guest of honor, the choice is yours. Oh and no need to worry about cranberry bogs here. Bring a book, we will provide the treats.
ReplyDeletecristinaalaska(@)gmail(dot)com
I'm on my way, Frances Cristina! That all sounds delightful. Signed, Dep.
DeleteIt is so hot here that autumn brings weather that is usually not as humid or hot. Cool breezes let you actually hang out in the yard. I love to read in this weather or even watch my children play soccer. Even walking at the farm market! All of these are fun and much more comfortable in fall’ dubecara (at) gmail (dot) com.
ReplyDeleteI like some nice warmth, like a patch of sunshine coming through the window, but the summers you're describing sound even a little warm for me. Hooray for fall! Signed, Dep.
DeleteWe like to go to the high school football games. ckmbeg (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteI think I prefer my own little football. I love the way it bounces! Signed, Dep.
DeleteAs the temperature gets cooler (instead of the triple digit heat we had this summer) I like to walk our three rescued furbabies to the dog park here in San Angelo, Texas. I also don't mind cutting the grass as there is usually a cool breeze in the morning. We will do a lot of the remodeling we have planned with cooler weather.
ReplyDeleteteddi1961(at)arcemont(dot)com
I saw a dog park once. Gave me goosebumps, but even with my fur all puffed up, I wasn't quite as big as some of those dogs. Almost, but I wouldn't want to go any closer than I did that one time! Signed, Dep.
DeleteAutumn means going to the orchards and enjoying apple picking. With the wonderful apple varieties I make applesauce which lasts us through the winter. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteApples. I've sniffed them. Didn't think they qualified as food. Signed,Dep.
DeleteSpending time outside, able to take more walks when it's not so hot. The leaves are beaufiful. Cooking soups and stews.
ReplyDeletesallycootie(at)gmail(dot)com.
Good plans, Grandma Cootie. Emily also makes soups and stews, and some of them smell pretty good. Signed, Dep
DeleteI enjoy the fall since it is the best season and weather. Bright blue skies, sunshine and warmth which is ideal for walks in the foothills with my dog. Roasting veggies with salmon and enjoying reading outside in the backyard. elliotbencan(at)hotmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteSave me some of that salmon, especially before you roast it. Emily would like it roasted with the veggies! Signed, Dep
DeleteI enjoy the cooler/less humid days, changing colors of the leaves, sleeping with the windows open/extra blankets. Fall smells sooooooooooo good!
ReplyDeletekpbarnett1941[at]aol.com
I agree with you! Signed, Dep.
DeleteDep, I saw a cranberry bog once and, yes, that's a LOT of cold water.
ReplyDeleteI still question how crullers, given their shape, are hung on a donut board.
libbydodd at comcast dot net
You're so right--the water in a cranberry bog would be very cold! The hole in the cruller goes over the dowel on the donut wall, just like the hole in the donut does. You can see them hanging like that on the cover of the book. You can see me, there, too, though I'm not allowed near the food. Signed, Dep.
DeleteInteresting. I thought crullers were long and kind of thin, not circular.
DeleteLibby, I saw your comment about long and thin crullers, but in the process of trying to approve it, I must have lost it. Maybe some crullers are long and thin, but where I live, they're round with holes and look a bit like tractor tires. Long thin ones would be hard to hang on a donut wall! I suppose a hammer and nails would do the trick .
DeleteAha, your message showed up where it was supposed to! Technology works! Sort of...
DeleteI love shuffling through colorful fallen leaves. lkleback at hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI do, too. You never know what you might find in them. Signed, Dep.
DeleteWe love to go to the apple orchards and get all diff kinds of apples to make pies and etc it's a great road trip! Also we love all the wild life that we didn't see in the summer now out and active before winter. also the color of the leaves on our land are so pretty and we have to end our gardening and canning which is a sad time. peggy clayton ptclayton2@aol.com
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about road trips or apples, but I do love it when Emily gardens and I can hang out with her in the sunshine. I'll miss that when cold weather comes. Signed, Dep.
DeleteI love football. I plan to go to a local orchard for a hayride, and get a pumpkin, apple cider and donuts. Thank you for this chance. areewekidding(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI'm a little leery of those pumpkins, but I hear that apple cider donuts are good, if you're a people. Signed, Deputy Donut.
DeleteI love the cooler weather in the Fall. I like the leaves on the trees turning color and I like to walk in the fallen leaves. Depending, glad to hear you wear a harness and leash when you are out walking, wouldn't want you getting distracted and running off.
ReplyDeletediannekc8(at)gmail(dot)com
I like all that stuff, too! I wasn't certain about the leash and harness at first, but they're better than being put into a cat carrier and carried around like a piece of luggage. So undignified. Signed, Deputy Donut.
DeleteI like visiting the apple orchards for those fall treats!
ReplyDeleteJHolden955(at)gmail(dot)com
I think I might like that, too. Maybe I could learn to climb out of apple trees? I'm not so sure about that. Signed, Deputy Donut.
DeleteI like to go hiking once the temperature drops. I love seeing all the different colors as the leaves change. turtle6422(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI like a nice gentle walk. I need lots of time to practice pouncing, and I'm not sure that hiking allows for that. But it should be fun for you! Signed, Deputy Donut.
DeleteI enjoy the fall foliage.
ReplyDeletejtcgc at yahoo dot com
I do, too, especially when leaves fall and get all crackly and fun to play with. I don't like it when the rain makes them soggy. Signed, Deputy Donut.
DeleteWe like to go to mountains to get apples, apple cider, apple cider donuts, and drink apple cider slushies. It's so good!
ReplyDeleteHeidiark@yahoo.com
I wonder if Emily does some of these fun things when she leaves me at home with food, water, toys, and kitty litter. Signed, Dep.
DeleteI love going to an apple orchard to get some apples, apple cider, and apple cider donuts, then come home and make some apple pies. I also love driving around the state checking out the variety of colors on the hills and fields. I also love to walk through leave piles and hear the crunching of the dry leaves.
ReplyDeleteematov (at) comcast (dot) net
I'm with you on the dry leaves! Signed, Dep.
DeleteMy favorite Autumn activities include drinking hot chocolate, baking pumpkin breads and cakes, and scuffing through dry leaves. Thanks for the giveaway, and I hope you enjoy September, Dep! aut1063(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think I'd like to hang out in your kitchen. And the dry leaves, of course. Signed, Dep.
DeleteWe go to the apple orchards and sample all the goodies at the various farms. Love apple cider!
ReplyDeletebabemomara@att.net
You know what? Maybe riding in a car isn't as bad as I like to pretend! Signed, Dep.
DeleteI like the cooler air to sleep with the window open and the fresh smelling air. Making caramel apples too. Donamaekutska7@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI like cooler air and open windows, too. I bet Emily would like the caramel apples. She just read your comment and said aloud "caramel apple donuts!" So I guess she'll be trying some new recipes... Signed, Dep.
DeleteI love walking through the park. The colors are glorious.
ReplyDeletemarypres(AT)gmail(DOT)com
I'll come with you! On my leash. Signed, Dep.
DeleteI like taking pictures of the autumn leaves, and sometimes I bring in some nice crinkly ones for my kitties to play with :-)

ReplyDeleteYou must have a great indoor jungle! I know, I know, kitties aren't supposed to bite the plants. It's bad for them--and us. Well, some plants. Do you grow catnip...??? Signed, Dep.
DeleteI love walking through dry leaves and seeing the changing colors in the landscape. I look forward to seeing the first snow fall in the mountains - hoping it stays there!! Thanks for a chance to win! ljbonkoski@yahoo.com
