Charlie Harris from the best-selling "Cat in the Stacks" series by Miranda James

It's September, and in north Mississippi there's a faint hint of autumn in the air. After another hot summer I'm ready to welcome the milder temperatures of fall. I look forward every year to watching the trees change and show us their different colors as the months pass. In Houston we didn't get to see this all that much because fall and winter there are so much milder. Not that we have harsh winters in Athena, mind you, but we often have more of one than we did in Texas.

I'm particularly happy this fall because I have both my children with me. Sean seems to be settling happily here in Athena, and I think Alexandra Pendergrast has a lot to do with that. Laura is here for the semester, and with the awful murder of her former boyfriend behind her she also seems to be settling in well. But after the holidays she'll be heading back to Hollywood, I guess, and I will surely hate to see her go. So will Diesel, because Laura lavishes so much attention on him. I'm hoping against hope that something -- or someone -- will cause her to change her mind and decide to stay in Athena with her family, but we'll have to see about that.

I'm also hoping against hope that I'm not going to find another body anytime soon -- if ever again. Figuring out "whodunit" is interesting, but if I keep getting involved in murders, people may start being afraid to come around me....

  1. I hope your kids decide to stay close to you, Charlie!

  2. I know the feeling... I sure hope I don't find another body any time soon!

  3. Maybe Laura will change her mind. Kids are so unpredictable. Hmm, have you thought about helping her find a new local boyfriend?
