It’s fangtastic to be here!

the first in the Immortality Bites Mysteries series
by Michelle Rowen

My name is Sarah Dearly and I’m a vampire. But relax, I’m a nice one. (Well, usually.)

I had a fairly recent transition to the fanged way of life thanks (?) to what I like to refer to a “blind date from hell” who decided he wanted to date me for all eternity. He’s history now—literally. Right after I was bitten, I met some vampire hunters, the ones not adorably played by Sarah Michelle Gellar. If you’re a vampire, you should definitely avoid vampire hunters and their wooden stakes. But I think that goes without saying.

Fleeing from those nasty hunters, I met the master vampire (another way of saying he’s really, really old, but he doesn’t look it) of my dreams, Thierry. Very recently, Thierry took a job with the (shadowy and mysterious) vampire council which means he needs to be constantly traveling the world and helping vampires in need (other than me) when they get into sticky situations—and yeah, we’re talking disappearances, murders…mysteries of all shapes and sizes. Given the choice to never see the man I love again by breaking our engagement or tagging along with him as his sassy and sarcastic sidekick, I chose door #2.

I’ve always had a knack for getting into trouble, and that’s not changing any time soon. To think, less than a year ago I was a normal 28-year-old human chick with a totally and boringly normal life. And now I’m traveling all over the place and usually diving head-long into danger. In my world (which is your world too, you just don’t know it!) there are loads of vampires, werewolves, wizards, witches, ghosts, shapeshifters, and magic galore waiting just around the corner. Serial killers come in both the human and non-human variety. Quite honestly, I’d be thrilled to avoid that sort of thing, but I think that’s an impossibility. Thierry constantly worries that I’m going to get myself killed, but…um, so far so good. I’m not quite the naïve pushover he first met that fateful night when I got bit. I’ve learned a lot over the months that have passed and even though I’m still a magnet for trouble, I’m a survivor. Also, if there’s one thing I won’t stand for it’s letting someone I care about get hurt. I will jump in with both feet (high heels or not) to save them. If that gets me in trouble, then so be it!

Being a vampire has come with a lot of difficulties and dangers, but looking back I know I wouldn’t want it any other way. And I am seriously pumped to look toward my future fangtastic adventures with Thierry.

I see other Killer Characters have provided recipes to readers. Since I don’t eat solid food I will share my drink recipe. No blood or fangs required.

Tequila Sunrise

1.5 ounces tequila
Orange juice
2 dashes grenadine syrup

Mix tequila and orange juice in a highball glass over ice. Tilt glass and pour in some grenadine so it sits at bottom and looks all pretty and sunrise-like. Garnish with cherries and orange slices. Which I also can’t eat, thanks for rubbing it in.

  1. Bummer. Do you miss food? I know I would. Nothing? Really? Not even a little bite? What happens if you eat? And how do you hide that? Don't people wonder why you don't eat? Maybe you shouldn't tell me how you find blood to drink . . .

  2. My favorite is rum and coke. Basic!

  3. To answer Sophie... :)

    Do you miss food?

Less than you might think, but sometimes it would be nice to have the choice.

Nothing? Really? Not even a little bite? What happens if you eat?

Nope. Nothing. Only drinks. My body rejects the food. Let's just say it's a mistake you'll only make a couple of times before you "get it."

And how do you hide that? Don't people wonder why you don't eat?

My peer group is entirely vampires. And if I'm with other people, they just think I'm dieting. No biggie.

Maybe you shouldn't tell me how you find blood to drink . . .

Like I said, I'm a nice vampire. Usually. ;) Blood is a business in the vampire world -- think Starbucks for vampires -- and you can find it lots of places if you know where to go!

  4. Over the summer, my friend introduced me to the Pineapple Upside Down Cake Drink. I have no idea what was in it, but it was delicious! It tasted just like cake except, you know, it was a drink.

  5. No solid food, not even a blood orange? LOL. I drink coffee, but tea is more my thing. And wine... lovely merlot!!

  6. I like sweet drinks like "Tom Collins" with lots of cherries. but I also like "Shirley Temple" tool

  7. Pumpkin Spice Latte is by far my favorite drink.

  8. I love sweet tea either hot or cold.

  9. Bloody Mary is my favorite! : )

  10. My favorite drink is Orangina :)
Thank you for the awesome giveaway!

  11. My favorite drink at the minute is this vodka fizzy thing my friend makes for me. all i know about it is it has lemon and orange and something really sweet and fizzy. goes down like so nicley.

  12. Don't vampires have a problem with "sunrises?" As long as you don't drink this and watch the sun come up, you're probably ok. Or is that just a myth? I'm sure you can edify all of us on the myths related to being a vamp in your upcoming books.
BTW, I'm a bloody mary or dirty martini kind of gal.

  13. Cream Soda - I love vanilla like drinks.

Glad to see Sarah Dearly in a new series :)
