Death by Chocolate

By Hayley Snow from Lucy Burdette's Key West Food Critic mysteries

Hey, it's Hayley Snow here--thinking about chocolate. There are two kinds of people in this world, the chocolate crazy people and the "no thank you chocolate" types. My mother, for example, is a chocaholic. When she's looking at a menu, she doesn't see anything but the chocolate cream pie or the double chocolate brownie with vanilla bean ice cream or the chocolate pot de creme. You get the idea...

Me, on the other hand? I'll take the key lime pie or the yellow sponge cake with strawberries or peach cake with whipped cream.

But I still end up baking a million chocolate desserts, because the people I love really love them. And these same people really believe chocolate is healing or soothing or energizing.

(I know of no medical expert who claims we get a boost in antioxidants or a reduction in inflammation from key lime pie.)

Anyway, my best friend Connie's wedding is coming up soon and she begged me to bake the dessert. What do you think the chances are it will end up chocolate?

If you could choose any dessert in the world, what would it be?

And just to show you I'm not kidding, here are links to some of things I've cooked up lately: Hot Fudge Pie, Chocolate bars with Chocolate ganache frosting, Scarlet O'Hara cupcakes...

  1. Unfortunately, I haven't met a dessert that I did not like but if it is chocolate, the more the better.
    Thanks for the recipes.

  2. Thank you. I'm trying really, really hard not to think about hot fudge pie!

  3. So true, my favourite desserts in a restaurant are Creme Brûlée or Chocolatemousse.
