By Lizzie Turner from the
Ashton Corners Book Club Mysteries
by Erika Chase

Oops, author asleep at the switch. Has that ever happened to your author? You know, you're trying hard to help them get this next book finished and they miss things like a blog deadline? Your chance to shine in the public eye!!!

The reader doesn't realize how hard we the characters are actually working. Day in, day out. Trying to follow the clues, do the sleuthing, catch the bad guys. It's really a challenging job and what thanks do we get? Well, being able to have a voice once a month on Killer Characters is a start, when it happens.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not one who yearns for the spotlight. I love being a part of the Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and Book Club Society. These are my friends and we've become a very caring and supportive group. Sure, we get into some tense discussions sometimes. It's hard to let go of an opinion about someone's writing and who your favorite author is or why the book you've chosen for that month is really special (especially when others may not agree).

But that's the thing about friendships. You can have these intense discussions and still you're there for each other, you share in their joys and hardships, you try awfully hard to clear their names when they're accused of murder.

We all pulled together in Cover Story to help get Bob Miller off the hook. And I can tell you, we're all for one again in book number four, that one I mentioned that is in the process of being finished.

So, I guess I'll cut my author some slack. I am getting my chance to get a few things off my chest, here, today. And I'll tell you, I'm really overall very, very happy to be a part of the Ashton Corners Book Club Mysteries.

There....doesn't that feel better? That's a question to me, by the way and the answer is yes.

Do you ever have days you just have to blow off a little steam and then find you've come full circle and are back in your happy place?

Cover Story, the third in the Ashton Corners Book Club Mysteries
is now available!

  1. A *little* steam? Yes. And sometimes a lot...

  2. Don't you hate it when your author takes you places you don't want to go? Seriously, sometimes I wish they would cut us some slack and make the sleuthing a little bit easier for us. I don't usually need to blow off steam, but I know what you mean. Sometimes just talking about a problem is all we need to set everything right again. Unless there's a murder . . .

  3. Oh, Sophie, you're right about the murder bit. I'm looking forward to solving this next one.

  4. Lol glad you are feeling better Lizzie. Hope you come back next month to tell us a bit more about the mystery you are a part of.
