What is your getaway?

We all have them... those places, either in real life or in our mind, where we can escape the hubbub of life.

Mine is Heartbreak Island, just a ten minute ferry ride away from Queensville, but a world away from the chaos that I sometimes feel I invite into my life. What kind of chaos, you ask?

Right now, I'd say... my mother. She and I just don't get along. I love her, and she loves me, but we are so unalike. She likes order, and I thrive in disorder. She expects me to confess all my feelings, and I like to keep a tight rein on my emotions. She hates clutter and I collect.

That's a big one, and the main reason that as we speak, I am planning to stay out at Rose Tree Cottage, our family dwelling and holiday rental on Heartbreak Island, while she visits Queensville. Because you see, there is an added complication. Daniel Collins, my kind-sorta boyfriend, has his parents coming to stay at his Queensville home, Stowe House, and he expects us all to meet and greet.

Oy. I don't know what his parents are like, but I know my mother. She is already planning my wedding, and though the male face in my happily-ever-after photo has always been kind of hazy, she will have Daniel slotted into it as soon as she meets him. I mean, he's a wonderful guy, really top notch, and he's rich, too.

But I'm not ready for that.

So... think of me, hiding out on the island while I try to survive my mother's upcoming visit. Thank heavens for Heartbreak Island, my little chunk of peaceful paradise. If anything every happened to it, I don't know how I'd cope.

Tell me I'm not alone here... is there anyone in YOUR life who you love, though they drive you crazy?

About Freezer I’ll Shoot:
Trying to escape her overbearing mother, vintage kitchenware enthusiast and soon-to-be columnist Jaymie Leighton retreats to her family’s cottage on Heartbreak Island. While there she hopes to write an article about the Ice House restaurant, owned by good friends and neighbors, siblings Ruby and Garnet Redmond. Once and actual icehouse, the restaurant is charmingly decorated with antique tools of the trade, including a collection of ice picks.

One night, while working on her article, Jaymie overhears an argument, and, ever the sleuth, sets out to explore. But when she stumbles upon a dead body, her blood runs cold. It’s Urban Dobrinskie, whose feud with the Redmonds is no secret, and he’s got an ice pick through his heart. Now Jaymie’s got to sharpen her sleuthing skills to chip away at the mystery and prove her neighbors’ innocence – before someone else gets picked off…

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed books one and two and look forward to this one. I'm looking forward to actually meeting Jamie's mother.

    1. LOL... she's a trip. We couldn't be less alike. Becca is more like her, and I'm like Dad. So everyone says, anyway!

  2. I'm planning my own wedding, and wishing I didn't have to invite my mother...

  3. I have had Book 1 & 2 in my to be read pile since this summer but my husband has had me on a forced march to get a handle on the clutter in my house. Now that I know Jamie is a kindred soul who thrives in clutter I must get to this series!

  4. Ooo I look forward to reading this one, I so feel for you. I love my mother, but spending more than an hour together and we have nothing to talk about. And living together? Horrible. But Jamie, you are going to the FAMILY home, she will just follow you there! Just tell her there are more men in your life and you are not ready to choose ...
