Why Don’t People Listen to Me?

by Dr. Michael Ramos, Quincy’s veterinarian
from THE FAT CAT series by Janet Cantrell

I don’t expect Anna Larson to change overnight. She’s an older woman, after all, and set in her ways. But when Chase tells her not to give Quincy crumbs and leftovers from the dessert bars, I wish she would listen.

Chase, on the other hand—I do expect her to listen to me. Quincy is her cat, after all, and his health should be important to her. Okay, I know he’s very important to her, but she just isn’t insistent enough with Anna.

I wonder if I should speak to her myself. Wait a minute! I wonder if Chase actually spoke to her like she said she would. Maybe I can figure out how to go about finding this out.

I know Quincy is smart and cute and, well, irresistible. That must be the answer.

When my practice calms down a bit, I’d like to get more serious with Chase. And I don’t mean about her cat’s diet. Those blue-gray eyes, changeable as a stormy sky. That soft, silky hair—sort of in between blonde and brunette. She’s as hard to tack down as her eye and hair colors are. I can’t tell if she’s attracted to me or not. Sometimes I’m sure, but other times.

She seems to be recovering from something that happened in Chicago. I’d better take it slow with her. I know she’ll be back to see me. I’m scheduling Quincy for checkups a little more often than I need to. Don’t tell her, but I’m shaving a bunch off her fees to make up for that.

FAT CAT SPREADS OUT will be published June 2nd and can be preordered now. Please

A booth at the Bunyan County Harvest Fair seems like the perfect opportunity for Charity “Chase” Oliver and Anna Larson to promote their Bar None bakery business. Unfortunately, plus-sized pussycat Quincy has plans for their delicious dessert bars other than selling them to customers. After tearing through their inventory, Quincy goes roaming the fairgrounds in search of more delights.

But what he finds is murder.

  1. My editor gave me an actual paper copy of FAT CAT SPREADS OUT (#2) at Malice Domestic! It feels very nice. Be on the lookout for a Goodreads giveaway of ARC and of real copies. (Posting for Janet while we're still away from home and our real computer.)
