It's the Tourist Season in Laguna Beach

by Caro Lamont from Sparkle Abbey's Pampered Pet series

Here in Laguna Beach it's the tourist season which means all the shops and restaurants are a lot busier.
Now, I don't have anything at all against visitors. It's does make our favorite spots for lunch or coffee a lot more crowded. The Main Beach boardwalk is full walkers. And then there's the parking which is a challenge in the off season, let alone where there's a few thousand more people competing for those primo spots.

Which is why I'm baffled by my cousin Melinda's decision to close the Bow Wow Boutique for a few days to take a trip with her assistant, Betty Foxx. You remember Betty, don't you? She played a big part in saving my bacon in Downton Tabby.

I really hope if she and Mel are traveling that Betty is following my advice with her rowdy St. Bernard, Raider. He's still a pup but quite a handful for a petite little senior like Betty. We've been working on a few things. Basics like sit and stay. But often when pet owners are on vacation it's hard for them to keep up the routine.

Maybe I worry too much but something is definitely up for Mel to close the shop without notice. I'll bet my mother knows. Mama Kat and her sister Barbra, Mel's mama, talk almost every day. I guess I'll have to make a phone call to Texas to find out what's happening in my own backyard. In the meantime, if you get a chance to visit Laguna Beach, please do. We're really a friendly bunch overall and we do enjoy sharing our beautiful town with others.

More to come on Mel and Betty's outing in Raiders of the Lost Bark this fall. Want to read about Betty's (and Raider's) adventures with Caro? Downton Tabby is out now.

"Need a treat today? Of course you do! Grab your snacks, your fav drink, and settle down in a comfy place to relish this mystery!"  ~ B. Baker, Amazon reviwer

Caro Lamont, amateur sleuth and well-respected animal therapist to Laguna Beach's pampered pets, works with office mate and tech wizard, Graham Cash, whose beloved Scottish Fold tabby cat, Toria, is purported to have anger management issues. But when Caro drops by the charming Brit's Tudor-inspired mansion to return Toria, she finds his business partner dead and Cash missing.

Caro is left with the cuddly cat and a lot of unanswered questions. Is Cash the killer, or has he been kidnapped? What's up with the angry next door neighbor? And what about Cash's girlfriend, Heidi, who isn't sharing everything she knows with homicide detective Judd Malone?

Suddenly there are more secrets and intrigues than there are titles in England. Add in a stranger in a dark SUV stalking Caro, feisty senior sidekick, Betty, hiding in restaurant shrubbery, and wannabe investigative reporter Callum MacAvoy who seems to be constantly underfoot, and you've got a cat and mouse mystery of the first order.

Sparkle Abbey is the pseudonym of two mystery authors (Mary Lee Woods and Anita Carter). They are friends and neighbors as well as co-writers of the Pampered Pets Mystery Series. The pen name was created by combining the names of their rescue pets--Sparkle (Mary Lee's cat) and Abbey (Anita's dog). They reside in central Iowa, but if they could write anywhere, you would find them on the beach with their laptops and, depending on the time of day, with either an iced tea or a margarita.

  1. Dang right you'd better call Texas and find out what's up with Mel. I have a special affinity for people with that name. If she needs help, let me know. I'll be there in two shakes.

  2. I agree with Mel of Mel's on Main! We characters need to help each other.

  3. Thanks, Mel of Mel's on Main and Willow from Threadville! It's good to know we can count on you. :-)
