Snowflakes and Sneezes and Sunny Meadows
by Kari Lee Townsend
Sunny Meadows says brrrr....
It's that time of year. Winter! Don't get me wrong, I love watching big fat snowflakes flutter past the evening glow of the old-fashioned street lamps lining our streets. There's nothing like the pristine white of a fresh snowfall the next morning. The way the sunlight sparkles like diamonds off the flakes blanketing the ground. But along with snow comes cold. Now, I can handle it being cold outside. I live in central New York, after all. But my house is in an ancient Victorian home. Let's just say my furnace is on the fritz and I have a cold. When the inside becomes as cold as the outside and the sniffles set in, Sunshine Meadows becomes a little less "sunny."
My house is cold, I am cold, and my cat Morty and fiance Detective Mitch Stone are cold. What does that equal? One grumpy household. If you know my crew, then you know that can mean nothing but trouble. It's not sunny out or pretty or pristine. It's overcast and stormy and gray. If we don't find some way to stay warm and healthy and chase away the winter blues, I'm afraid of what might happen. So tell me, what do you do to keep warm and make the cold dark days of winter seem a little more cheerful?
