Who Doesn't Love a Surprise?
For Avery Aames aka Daryl Wood Gerber, author of FOR CHEDDAR OR WORSE, 7th in the Cheese Shop Mysteries
Je suis excitée! I am, how do you say, excited.
For the first time, my beautiful town of Providence, Ohio will hold a Cheese Festival. It will run a whole week. I have enticed a number of restaurants to offer cooking classes and specialty dinners, and I have encouraged the farms to present creamery tours and wine tastings. C'est merveilleux…marvelous, no?
For the theater event—we must always have theater!—we are shutting down the thoroughfares of our little town and setting portable stages upon which will appear singers, fiddlers, actors, poets and more. I have heard a bit of the poetry. It is fun. Silly. But it makes me smile. We will also have a cheese competition. There will be two rounds of tastings with ten artisanal cheese farmers in each round. Of course I will be one of the judges. I cannot wait to taste the selections.
In addition, there will be a cheese brain trust sponsored by Emerald Pastures Farms. The owner Erin, a darling girl and one of my granddaughter Charlotte’s good friends, came up with the idea. What is a brain trust? It is where cheese makers, distributors, journalists, Charlotte and her adorable husband Jordan, who is quite adept in the art of affinage, will chat up the art of making cheese. They and many of the participants will stay at the inn on the farm.
By the way, I met one surprise participant at the dress shop moments ago. She is a cheese author that writes about all the farms and cheese shops in America. She was quite bossy. Not to me. To the shop owner. I have a feeling she will make trouble for Charlotte and the others when she shows up at the inn.
It is not right to rule the roost when one is a guest, no? One must not ruffle the feathers. One must pay attention to manners. Alas, it is not for me to say. As long as she does not make any trouble for the Cheese Festival, I am sure the others will keep her in line.
Leave a comment with your email (it can be cryptic, if you would like) and you will be entered to win a copy of FOR CHEDDAR OR WORSE. Winner will be picked on the 31st.
