This is no game...or maybe it is

Nate Sutter here and it’s finally spring on Mackinac Island. The tourists are getting off the ferries from the mainland. Thank heavens. It’s been a long cold winter and the island relies on the tourists. We’re not exactly Silicon Valley more like Star’s Hollow and Mayberry all rolled into one with no cars and only a few years-round residents.

There’s on little problem that we have that’s making this year a nightmare...we got a dead body right here in front of the Grand Hotel.

In a normal city a dead body is an inconvenience and a big problem for the dead guy but here on Mackinac it’s a huge problem for all of us. If word gets out there’s a killer on the lose people will stamped the ferry docks and bye-bye business. In no time the island will be deserted! So Evie Bloomfield who owns the bike shop on the island has play.  My conversation with Evie went something like...

I ran my hand around the back of my neck and let out a deep sigh. “I’m a cop, I can’t go along with this. The carriage driver’s going to know we got a real body here and this isn’t some stupid game and this whole thing is going to blow up in our faces.”
“He’ll keep his mouth shut,” Evie said, “or this time next week the only thing he’ll drive is himself to the unemployment office back on the mainland ‘cause there will be no one staying at this hotel or any place else on this island.”
Evie grabbed my by the front of my T-shirt. “Listentome. If you don’t go along with this idea of playing this whole thing as murder mystery party we’ll have an island full of hysterical fudgies because there’s no way off this chunk of rock till morning. It’s murder and mayhem week at the Grand Hotel so put on your dear-hunter hat and get used to it.”

Well, at least I tried to do the right thing but it seems that Evie and the rest of the businesses on the island are going to get their way...yep, we’re passing the whole thing off as a mystery weekend. How in the world am I ever going to find the real killer with everyone on the island thinking this is a one big party. Wish me luck.
