I'm in a bit of an awkward position and I need advice. I'll start with introductions. I was told by my Aunt Lush when I was a wee boy in short pants that when introducing people, you start with their name and two interesting things about them, so here goes: my name is Pish Lincoln. I was an investment counselor (still am, on occasion) and wrote a book about con artists. I am also an opera aficionado. My dear friend, Merry Wynter, owns Wynter Castle and graciously invited me to live here as long as I like. She was married to a delightful fellow, Miguel Paradiso, a Spaniard and professional fashion photographer who died, tragically, far too young leaving Merry a widow.

Since Merry inherited Wynter Castle, about one year ago exactly, there have been a few tragic incidents, but this last summer has been peaceful. Merry was called away unexpectedly by a family event related to her late husband. She's been gone an awfully long time - a couple of months or more; some folks in Autumn Vale are starting to say she'd never come home - and a few things have happened.

I won't get into all of them, but most importantly, I invited an opera singer to stay. Roma Toscano was lead soprano with the Lexington Opera Company in New York City, but she ran into a bit of a problem and was booted. She's now having trouble singing, and since that is her whole identity, the poor dear is suffering. I thought she needed an old fashioned rest cure, and I hope I'm making progress.

But now there is a problem; Merry is coming home (which I'm delighted about; I miss the dear girl so much) and she and Roma have a contentious relationship. I'll save the details as they are recorded elsewhere (Much Ado About Muffin - August 2nd, 2106).

What should I do? Call her and tell her about Roma? I don't want to upset her like that. She wants me to meet her at the airport and drive her back to the castle, but... oh, darn.

No, I think I'll do something different. For all I know she's forgotten all about Roma Toscano. I think I'll just send Virgil to pick her up at the Rochester airport (though he's upset with her too, for staying away so long; so maybe it'll be good for them to have some time together on the way home) and Roma could be a surprise.

That's it; a delightful surprise. I feel so much better. What could go wrong? Merry is a forgiving sort, and even though Roma has been... well, causing a few problems with the folks of Autumn Vale, we'll sort it out. Don't you feel better once you've found a solution for a problem?

Isn't this a LOVELY letter opener? So exquisite, so delicate... so deadly.

About Much Ado About Muffin...

Opera singer Roma Toscano may have a crippling case of stage fright, but she certainly is stirring up drama in Autumn Vale, New York, as she prepares for an upcoming performance at Merry's Wynter Castle. With her flamboyant style and flirtatious personality, Roma attracts fans as well as critics, including the town's postmistress - and Merry's bitter foe - Minnie Urquhart.

But Roma and Minnie's heated rivalry goes cold after Merry discovers Minnie dead at the post office. While every clue seems to be another ingredient in the investigation of Roma, Merry thinks the case is half-baked, and she's eager to get her mitts on the real killer...
