No Vacation Blues

A Day in the Life Devereaux Sinclair by Denise Swanson

Hi! Dev here.

As the owner of Devereaux’s Dime Store and Gift Baskets, I’m not really able to take a vacation. The store hasn’t even been open a year, so there’s no way that I can go away for a week. Unfortunately, in my previous occupation—cutthroat financial consultant—although I had vacation time coming, it would have been career suicide to use it. Which means, I haven’t had a break in years.

With my dad out of prison and working for me, I might be able to take a day or two off, but every time I think about it something happens around here. The latest fiasco has to do with the town library. It was closed due to lack of funds, and just when it looked as if we’d found a philanthropist to sponsor its reopening, he ends up dead.

Did I mention the guy was my stepfather? And that my mom is the police’s chief suspect?

Yeah! You see why I can exactly pack my swimsuit and head for the islands.

At least my best friends Boone and Poppy are around to ease my pain with the occasional margarita. And heaven knows I don’t need to go on vacation to find a hot guy. I’ve got an ex US Marshal and a handsome doctor to date right here in Shadow Bend, Missouri.

Yep! That’s another issue. I need to figure out what man is my true love before they both get tired of my hemming and hawing.

You can read more about Dev in Between a Book and a Hard Place, the fifth book in the Devereaux’s Dime Store a humorous romantic mystery series.
