Hi, Reagan Summerside here from the Consignment
Shop series here in Savannah.
Guess what, I’m getting married! Yes me,
bum-magnet Summerside who married Hollis the Horrible is getting married to the
delish Walker Boone! How’d I get so lucky?!
Well, that’s the good news and now there’s the
planning part that everyone has an opinion about. But even that isn’t so bad
when compared to the Abbott sisters, my elderly, totally adorable next-door
neighbors getting accused of murder!
“There’s a hand sticking out of the middle of your
garden,” Detective Aldeen Ross said in a calm voice as if she’d come across
such things every day. And maybe in her line of work she did!
“Hand?” Annie Fritz Abbot gulped. “What hand?”
“That
hand,” Aldeen snarled, jabbing a stiff finger at the exposed digits. “The one
next to the dog.”
“That there just happens to be a...a new vegetable
sister and I put in this year and...”
Annie Fritz’s voice trailed off as Aldeen snagged
a hand trowel from the wheelbarrow, opened the squeaky garden gate, gave BW her
best I am the police so get lost look
then bent down. She dug next to the hand, slowed then stopped. She stared back at
Annie Fritz and Elsie both now standing on the stoop looking like death warmed
over.
“Is there some reason Bonnie Sue McGrath is
planted in your backyard?”
“Fertilizer?” Elsie ventured in a squeaky voice.
See what I mean! Now I’ve got to find the
real killer so the sisters can be at my wedding and not just watching it on
Instagram! How can I concentrate on this and plan a wedding too!
So what’s the worse thing you ever saw at a
wedding? Cake fall over? Groom not show up? Bride not show up? Preacher not
show up?
Let me know and I’ll give away a hardcover copy
of Lethal In Old Lace from the responses below!
Have a wonderful Christmas!
Hugs, Reagan Summerside, Auntie KiKi and
Duffy Brown
I have never seen anything that would be considered the worse thing at any wedding.

Yes, I have attended a wedding with guests behaving like animals. Taking home items which were not for them. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI've only been to a couple of weddings actually and thankful nothing bad happened.
ReplyDeleteAwilcox1182@gmail.com
A very drunk groom. Could hardly stand up for the vows. Much repetition before he could get his words out.
ReplyDeletecjreynolds52(at)comcast(dot)net
At a coworker's wedding, the guest sitting next to me at the reception kept lifting her sleeve and sniffing it.She held it out to me to smell and asked "Does this smell bad to you?" lkleback at hotmail.com
ReplyDeletei have never seen anything at a wedding - sounds like an interesting story. jcook22@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen anything truly bad. But I did hear of the fire sprinklers going off. Sure it was a mess. Kckendler at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteThe bride and groom decided to get back at their families by wording the whole service as a slap to the parents.
ReplyDeleteClergy advice to reconsider was ignored. They wanted it as it was.
Then the day of the wedding arrived and the groom realized what a terrible idea it was.
He passed out at the beginning of the ceremony.
libbydodd at comcast dot net
The one bridesmaid got mad because the bride and groom fed each other the cake, nicely and didn't make a mess. So bridesmaid got a big scoop of frosting and smeared it all over the bride's face! dbahn(at)iw(dot)net
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I were married 32 years ago at a candle-light ceremony. We lived about 40 miles apart and got married at the church he attended. This wasn't exactly pleasing my mother but it was what it was. The day we were to get married it was a hot humid day which didn't help the hairdo but my stylist was attending and came to the rescue. Our wedding was to be at 5 p.m. and my parent's didn't get to the church until 4:45 p.m. after traveling in a terrible rain storm. As my father and I proceeded down the aisle, the electric blinked. At the reception, one of my elderly uncles almost passed out but my mother made sure to grab him a plate of food. As we were getting ready to depart from the reception, I realized I had forgot my purse that had my identification in it and we were having our honeymoon in Niagara Falls so we had to travel to my hometown to pick it up. It was a comedy of errors but all in all I wouldn't have had it any other way. robeader53(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteAt my sister's wedding years ago, the priest wore red white and blue tennis shoes that were clearly visible under his religious robe.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen anything really bad at a wedding. The worst thing would probably be the time two bridesmaids obviously didn't like each other and were bickering during dinner. But they did behave during the ceremony! mbradeen@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteworse wedding disaster is one where the cake was knocked over by the groomsmen dancing (at least that is what they called it, it looked more like an aerobic exercise). it was a mess.
ReplyDeleteI think the absolute worse thing I've witnessed at a wedding has to be the ex-boyfriend showing up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win a hardcover copy of Lethal In Old Lace. I would be beyond thrilled to be the fortunate one selected.

happened at my own wedding....one bridesmaid tackled the others to get to the bouquet I tossed....awful!

pjstaton64114@aol.com
The worst was my sister's wedding. I got in a fight with the best man who was my boyfriend I hit him over the head with the bouquet. And then the bridesmaid stepped into a bucket of water the custodian left out
ReplyDeleteI've not seen anything bad happen at a wedding, but one of the groomsmen fainted at my parents' wedding. It was an outdoor wedding & really hot. The groomsman was also hungover.

I remember when my late Husband & I got married & we went to the reception after the ceremony & the caterers were late so we had to scramble some snacks to serve until the food got there. Thanks for your generosity. lindamay4852@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a wedding in awhile! Maybe at the reception, people drinking too much at a open bar! missymoo2660(at)yahoo(.)com
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this series! So excited for the next one. Thanks for the chance at an early view. frybbe(at)gmail(dot)com

ReplyDeleteAt my friend's reception, there weren't enough seats, tables or food to accommodate their guests. Thank you for this chance. areewekidding(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen anything really terrible but at my own wedding when we went to light the unity candle, it didn't want to light. I could just see my hubby, always the jokester, was just itching to quip something funny but he didn't, lol. Worse than a candle that won't light, before it was really a thing to completely smash each other with wedding cake, at my husband's cousin's wedding, the groom just nailed the bride's face with cake and really smeared it--um needless to say they didn't stay married very long! (she looked kinda mad at the reception, I would have been!) barbie17(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing I ever saw in a wedding was people walking out during the service. kkat(dot)edwards(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI watched my 4 year old son walk down the path over a creek on an old wood bridge carrying the rings and then the inevitable...the rings fall off. Thankfully, what could have been a disaster of epic proportions (I blame the sister-in-law who didn't sew them on like she said she would), the rings fell on the plank and not between the planks. My son reached down and at the urging of his flower girl sister, kept walking. He handed the pillow to his soon to be aunt and the rings to his uncle. I still shudder when I think of that moment.
ReplyDeleteOnly thing was the ringbearer cried and wouldnt walk down the aisle.Candykennedy45@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteOnly been to 3 weddings. Nothing untoward happened at any of them. Would love to read. Appreciate the chance. Della at deepotter (at) peoplepc (dot) com
ReplyDeleteYou know how the guest hit their glass so the bride and groom kiss? Well apparently one of the groomsmen hit theirs too hard and when he went to take a drink he swallowed a piece of glass. That put a big delay in the bride and groom doing all their fun stuff at the reception.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance.

ReplyDeleteAt my sons wedding we were worried we wouldn’t have enough food more people showed up. At mt brothers wedding they cut the free beer off really early and wouldn’t let us bring more. So the wedding reception moved to my uncles house outside in the yard. I’d be so happy to read this book. Donamaekutska7@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMany years ago I attended a wedding with my parents. It was a ritzy Wedding hosted by the Brides father, a big wig attorney where the boozed flowed and the bride ended up in the swimming pool. The story made the back page of the old Life magazine. Years later the bride and I ended up in a small town and we never mentioned her wedding.Ruth Nixon ruthenixon@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing I ever saw was at an outdoor wedding were a dog ran off with the cake. It was really more funny than bad, especially since the wedding cake was a particularly dense fruit cake confection the bride’s great-aunt had made and the dog only made it about 20 yards before the weight made him drop it. He took one bite, chewed for a minute, and spit it out, and then turned back to the buffet table to try for something tastier. Those of us who had been forced to suffer through Great-Aunt Margaret’s fruitcake before all secretly cheered on the dog and several of us snuck treats to the dog for the rest of the day.
ReplyDeleteHappy to say nothing terrible has happened at any of the weddings I've attended. jawdance@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteAll the weddings I have attended have gone as planned.

I attended a wedding where the groom groped an unsuspecting female guest...Just 10 minutes after saying, "I do."
ReplyDeletekonecny7(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI can't think of anything terrible happening at the weddings. The worst came in the years after. I would love to read this book, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI would so love to win this book. Sounds like my kind of cozy. deniseaustin59@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI attended a wedding where the bride and groom yelled at each other on the dance floor. They also had an ice sculpture that looked like a hand with the middle finger sticking up! They're divorced now LOL njcar22(at)aol(dot)com
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing for me happened when I was officiating a wedding. I came to the vows, turned to the bride and said, "Do you.." She looked at me and said, "No." I stopped. She said, "What's wrong?" I told her "You said no. I can't go on." She said, "I was just being funny." I said "Let's try this again." I reread the vows. This time she said yes. ReplyDeleteOne of the worst things I can think of happened at my first wedding. We had just family and a few friends and my parents paid for a nice meal at a nice restaurant and a case of Asti Spumanti for toasting. My ex-husband had 5 brothers and sisters. They all ordered prime rib dinners. Shortly after ordering dinner one of my new sisters in law asked how long before the food would be out as they had to go to a wedding rehearsal. So they took their dinners home in a box. The other 4 siblings helped themselves to bottles of Asti and cleaned the case out pretty quick. It was that day I realized I married into a northern red neck family. (We're from Michigan.) My mom and I talked about it for years and were still in disbelief.

The only thing that happened in a wedding was me crying happy tears of joy for my friend. Then she cried at my wedding. She told me I know how you felt at my wedding because I felt the same at yours.
ReplyDeleteI have never attended a wedding. Anything can happen, though, when planning such an important event especially if children, animals and family are involved! Thank you for a chance to win and have a wonderful holiday!

DeleteI went to a wedding on Friday the 13th. The dresses were not done and had to be completed hastily. Some were sewn into their dresses. The best man fainted and fell off the altar. Then the groom was called back by the Army and left for overseas. At another wedding, the cake was delivered to the wrong venue.

My flowers weren't there. They claimed no one was at the church at the agreed upon time, although I was there. My mother was running around placing the flowers around in front of the guests when they finally arrived. We were only a little bit late starting. Not too bad, since we've been married for 45 years.

ReplyDeleteAt one wedding I was in, the flower girl rolled around on the carpet and was talking loudly (it was a night wedding so it was too long a day!). When we walked out, we were all laughing loudly about and when the mother of the bride came out, she told us they could all hear us talking and laughing. Then we were surprised to be told to go back in and sit down for the bride's parents to renew their vows. We'd also had to spend the day cleaning the reception venue because it rained and we couldn't have the reception outside as planned. I LOVE this series! So glad there's a new book. hannah03(at)bellsouth (dot) net

ReplyDeleteWhen my brother got married, I was the maid of honor. When it was time for the best man, my cousin, to hand the rings over to my brother, my cousin handed him some cigar bands. I am pretty sure only the bridal party and the pastor saw what was going on but the congregation probably wondered what we were snickering about and what the delay was. It was pretty funny!

We celebrated our 26th a couple days ago. We call our honeymoon Snowmageddon. The whole reception ended abruptly when everyone realized a blizzard had hit while we were inside partying. That was just the beginning of the weather trouble! ;) I love this series. Cannot wait to read the next book!

ReplyDeleteThe worst thing I ever saw was before the wedding - the bride and groom had a Dalamatian that was not trained at all and they had dressed him in a "tuxedo" (just the shirt front part)and were going to have him be the ring bearer. After he ran around the backyard where the wedding was to be held, tore up the grass and peed all over the ground, myself and one of the groomsmen talked the bride and groom out of that idea. Thanks for the chance to win! aut1063(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteThankfully, I have never seen anything bad happen at a wedding. I did have a friend, though, who wanted to take outdoor pictures on her wedding day and it was raining. mcastor07(at)gmail(dot)com.
ReplyDeleteLuckily I have not been to many weddings. My own was at the justice of the peace and cost only $25. I said it was worth just about that much and so was my divorce. When my younger brother and his wife were getting married I was the maid of honor and I swore there was no one else either of them could have married. They argued the entire day. They are still married 20 plus years later though. kayt18 (at) comcast (dot) net
ReplyDeleteI'll never forget the wedding of a friend from college my Junior year. The bride was beautiful...and about 8 months pregnant! As she walked down the aisle her heel stuck in the white plastic lining it. Meanwhile a child, who I don't think was part of the wedding, was running around the organ screaming. When Mary finally made it to the altar the organist began to sing-completely off key! My friends and I (all theatre majors who could sing, and sing well) needed a drink after that one!

ReplyDeleteMarlene Ezell here. I was a bridesmaid at my cousin's wedding. Her brother who was 6'8" tall was an usher. He and I were paired to leave the church ceremony together. Well, as we were marching out, Bobby started to faint and ran into a pew, so I had to practically drag him out of the church.

I was in a wedding and the air conditioning in the church went out. They had to open the windows and bees came in and attacked our Bouquets that the Bridesmaids were carrying. So that left us with beating off bees while the wedding was going on in front of the church.

ReplyDeleteThe worst thing I've ever encountered related to a wedding was a storm related power outage. Shortly after exchanging their vows my cousins headed to the reception hall. The guests and bridal party were all inside the windowless banquet hall as a storm blew in knocking down power lines, etc. With the first loud crack of thunder all of the area power was lost. As a result there was no reception (no air conditioning, no lights, no ability of the facility to finish preparing the mean and no ability for the DJ/band to play. With 6-12 hours for power to be reestablished, everyone headed home. servedogmom AT Yahoo DOG com
ReplyDeleteI was the matron of honor at my now former friend's wedding. She left me in a hotel room by myself the morning of the wedding, with no car and then showed back up an hour before. ReplyDeleteThe wedding that started 45 minutes late because of the bride. Yes, she was there but is notoriously late, according to her sister-in-law, who busted her at the reception. But what was even more incredible, is during this delay, the wedding party and groom stood at the front awaiting the bride from 5 of those 45 minutes. I am a pastor, so I've seen lots of crazy things at weddings. The worst was the organist forgetting to show up, when he finally got there, 30 minutes late, he played the Wedding March, which the bride was totally opposed to having at her wedding.
