Summer is Winding Down #bookgiveaway

It's been blazing hot on and off this summer, with high humidity, muggy air that makes it feel ten degrees hotter. But, stuff needs to get done: yard work, cleaning, work, family events, cooking for those family events... I find it all a tad more tedious when the mercury climbs.

However, there are days that make up for it. Once in a while I'll have a day when I know there is very little to be done, or when Jocie is off with her cousins and Jakob is working, so I'll find a spot in the shade - Jocie's treehouse is actually a great spot for that, or if we're at the Queensville house an Adirondack chair in the shade - and Hoppy and I will just hang out, while I read a book. Other times we head to the beach, and while Jocie plays in the sand, building a sand castle with Jakob, I lie on a towel and read.

Ah... there is nothing like sinking into a book, is there? It's like a cool bath for the brain.

I favor historical romances, especially set in the Regency period. I got started on them because I have a friend who writes them, Melody Heath. We went to university (where we met) together and she introduced me to some of my favorite authors, like Mary Balogh, Jo Beverly and Mary Jo Putney, among others.

So, my reading friends... do you carve out time in summer just for reading? A whole day? Part of a day? Every afternoon?

Tell me, please!

It's the last weeks of summer, so let's do a...

  1. Yes I do - carve out time to read an afternoon after getting things done in morning- I really enjoy this time on my deck and a book jane werthmann jcook22@yahoo.com

  2. I try to read everyday. In the summer I like to read out on the deck.

  3. I try to read in the 3-5 pm block. Or in the morning. The mate has a weird schedule, and we have to do things when he is off. So I have to get in reading when he is at work. I need silence. And I have tried reading outside but its been a muggy humid summer here too. My email is philski155a at (AOL) (DOT) com

  4. I always set aside time at night to read. Since I’m not a big tv watcher, this is my entertainment. Nothing beats curling up on the couch with a good book. Jrizzo521(at)gmail(dot)(com)

  5. I read everyday and make time. Before bed and in the afternoon for at least a hour. I read at least two books a week. Donamaekutska7@gmail.com in between household chores too.

  6. I like to read everyday, usually for a couple of hours every night before going to sleep.

  7. Every night before going to sleep. Of course sometimes it adds to insomnia if the book is particularly engaging! jeaniedannheim (at) ymail (dot) com

  8. I read throughout the day, whenever I have a few minutes to spare, but I always read at night before I go to sleep.

  9. With a 2 year old granddaughter living with us I grab whatever time I can for reading. Especially when she's asleep for the night.

  10. I read every day. It's usually at night, but can be at other times of the day, too.
    Jana turtle6422(at)gmail(dot)com

  11. I read every day kat kms12261960@gmail.com

  12. I read every chance I get. Usually lunchtime during the week and every evening before I go to bed. mcastor07 (at) gmail (dot) com.

  13. I read every day and at night keep my audio book on hand for those insomnia times. Zibbby (@) gmail (dot) com

  14. I read everyday.

  15. When I get a book book (a print book) in the mail, I always sit down pretty quick and at least give it a start. Ebooks take the edge off when I have to stand in the hot and humid kitchen (for little things like, oh, cooking), so I don't have to think about where I am...if that makes sense. :)

  16. I read some every day...when eating lunch and at night, at least.

  17. Every day reader. ematov (at) comcast (dot) net

  18. I carve out time at night...right before bed and get me a little snack and read a book. Thank you for an ebook chance...
    Marilyn ewatvess@yahoo.com

  19. I read on my breaks at work. I try to read each evening, but that doesn't always happen. cheers (at) MarjimManor (dot) com

  20. It's not so much that I carve out a time to read, but rather that life dictates it to me (but I'm more than fine with that because any chance to read is a good time). I have some medical issues with muscles and joints that some days I know nothing but what has to will get done because it's just too painful. Weather, humidity and how much I strained the day before all play into it. When I have a bad spell, I have to get my must be done things done in spurts. In between, I read - both because I really enjoy it and because it distracts the brain off the pain and onto fun and exciting things between the pages of the book I'm reading.
