Too pumped to work!

By Shelby Cox from the Castle Bookshop Mysteries.
                         written by Essie Lang

My author is just back from Malice Domestic in Bethesda and rather than jumping right in and continuing to write book #3 in the Castle Bookshop Mysteries, she’s reminiscing via email with friends and readers she met at the conference. Huh.

To hear her tell it, this is a fabulous conference for all cozy readers and authors. I know she’s also recently back from Left Coast Crime, so you’d wonder how she’s getting any real work done. Oops, that’s my mistake. Going to conferences is work for an author. It’s the best chance to hook up with a slew of readers, new and old, and also to catch up with writing friends. After all, we all know how important promotion is to a series. The word needs to get out there and spread around. But I’ll bet it’s the fun aspect that keeps her attending after all these years.

I also hear they have some dynamite panels so maybe she’s come back with a few ideas that will work their way into her next story. I’m looking forward to seeing but first, we have Trouble on the Books to promote and then, book #2, Death on the Page coming out in March, 2020. How time flies when you’re having fun. And all of us at the bookshop are doing just that…except when there’s a body around.

Are you a fan of mystery conferences? Which ones are your favorite? Did you see my author at Malice? Was she having fun?

  1. I would love to attend Malice, LCC or Boucheron - they look like so much fun, and I would love being able to interact with my favorite authors and fellow readers. I saw some photos of your author at Malice, Shelby, and it looks like she had a great time!

  2. I saw your author! Had dinner and wine with her and authors Vicki Delany, Sheila Connolly, and Daryl Wood Gerber -- we sat outside and had a thoroughly delightful evening!

  3. I enjoy meeting authors but have yet to attend a mystery conference. I'm sure your author recharged after attending panels, meeting readers and other authors.

  4. Love to go to Malice but the time has never been right so I will keep on trying.
