My friend, Lilly Ann thought you’d like to get to know me. My name is Scarlett Jefferson, but everyone calls me Dixie. I was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee although I went to college in the Midwest. That’s where I learned the meaning of terms like wind chill, lake effect snow and where I froze my southern assets off. It’s also where I met my best friend, Lilly Ann Echosby. Lilly Ann and I found we had a lot in common, including that we both loved dogs, mysteries and pastries.
I’ve loved dogs since I was a small girl. When I was younger, I wanted an Old English Sheep Dog. I just loved all that hair. That’s when we learned that my brother, Rhett (yes, my mother was obsessed with Gone with the Wind), was allergic. However, I wasn’t about to let a little old thing like allergies stand in between me and a dog. A trip to my local library (no internet back in the 70s) helped me find my special breed, Poodles. Poodles have hair, not fur, and are hyper-allergenic. Back then, I wasn’t sure what all that meant, except that people with allergies can often tolerate poodles. I presented my parents with my findings and they agreed to give it a shot. Fortunately, my brother had no ill-effects and from that moment to now, I’ve had Standard Poodles. I’ve trained and competed with poodles in various events like conformation, agility and obedience. I’m heavily involved in the Eastern Tennessee Dog Club and also the local poodle rescue. My two standard poodles, Ch. Chyna 9th Wonder of the World and Grand Ch. Galactic Imperial Resistance Leader (Chyna and Leia for short) are retired from the show circuit and are living the life of the spoiled and pampered. Although, I’m still heavily involved as a dog trainer, judge and all-around dog advocate.
When Lilly Ann’s scumbag of a husband, Albert, dumped her for a pole dancing floozy, she was devastated. However, it didn’t take long for her to realize that life just might be sweeter without him. When Albert went and got himself murdered, Lilly Ann got to put her years of reading mysteries to the test to figure out whodunit. Now that she lives in Chattanooga, we get to spend a lot of time together training her poodle, Aggie, exploring Chattanooga and solving mysteries.
