You can probably guess from the title – I Won’t Grow Up – what my favorite book was as a kid.  I probably have every version ever printed. Here's a clue from the shelf in my bedroom:

Peter Pan. YES! Adults say I’m still a kid – and I like it that way. My mom’s been after me all year about applying to colleges.

I agree that's something I need to pay attention to – soon. But I’m not ready – so every time she brings up the subject I start singing:
I won’t grow up – I don’t want to go to school.
Just to learn to be a parrot – and recite a silly rule.

Mom just looks at me and shakes her head. There’s more to this than me acting childish, though. There is a whole grown-up side of me – the side that loves working at  Knead to Read, the bookstore in Lavender, Texas where I live.

I love books, and I love my job – working around the smell of books, opening cartons filled with brand new books, learning about the new releases.

It’s not all about the books either. I have a great boss, we have two cool resident cats in the store, and even a local writer named Sabrina who has another cool cat named Hitchcock.

Maybe I can take online college classes and keep my job at the store.  Until I come to a final decision, I’ll keep on singing.

If growing up means it will be – beneath my dignity to climb a tree,
I’ll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up. Not me!
