By Jill Gardner from Killer Party by Lynn Cahoon
The end of summer is kind of a mixed blessing here in South Cove. I mean, it's California, so we don't go into a snow bound cabin mode after summer leaves. But the rhythm of our lives change a little. We have fall festivals and lots of weekend visitors, but the summer ease of being off for a week and hanging out at the beach isn't happening. At least not for the visitors.
I on the other hand love taking long fall weeks where I'm off work and have no plans. I putter around the house, try new recipes, find soups I want to make and freeze for winter lunches, and sit on the empty beach with a book and my cooler filled with flavored waters. The sun is gentle during these visits. The birds vocal. Emma loves running back and forth with the waves.
And it gives me a sense of peace. A sense of calm the frantic summer months don't provide. Yes, I'm an introvert stuck in an extrovert job, so I need these breaks from peopling. And hanging out at an empty beach is just the ticket.
What about you? Do you love the beach crowds of summer? Or are you more like me (and my author, Lynn) and love the quiet of walking the sands alone?
Murder and Memories - the long awaited 10th book of the Tourist Trap book is releasing November 12th, 2019. What's going on with Aunt Jackie?
It’s October in South Cove, California, and the locals in the quaint resort seem to be happily pairing off in the lull before the holidays. Everyone, that is, except for Jill Gardner’s elderly aunt, who just dumped her besotted fiancé—and she won’t say why.
When Jill hosts a talk at Coffee, Books, and More on the topic of elder abuse, all that’s really on her mind is lunch. But the topic hits close to home when she discovers Aunt Jackie has been getting mysterious calls. Jill’s certain the caller is a con artist, of course, but her feisty aunt claims to understand this, though she’s still shaken—and Harrold’s still heartbroken. Who’s behind the scam and why was her aunt targeted? When a volunteer from the Senior Project is found murdered, Jill’s detective boyfriend is on the case—and it soon becomes clear no one is safe when a caller from beyond becomes a killer in their midst.
