Okay, where in the world did summer go? I feel like I was just making sides for the Independence Day celebrations, and then I turned around and it was time for the Farmers' Market!
The market has been a blast, but it has also been exhausting. It was my first year hosting a farmers' market at the Down South Cafe. Vendors--including my boyfriend Ryan's mom!--set up tents, tables, and tailgates on the left side of the parking lot every Saturday during September and October.
I've enjoyed meeting new people and sampling some of their crafts. One of my favorites was David Tucker, a woodworker from Abingdon. Dave's granddaughter Amanda recently opened the fashion boutique, Designs on You. Also, business at the Down South Cafe has been booming on Saturdays thanks to the added crowds.
Now Jackie and I--along with the rest of the Down South Cafe staff--are gearing up for Thanksgiving. A lot of our patrons like to buy their sides from us so they won't have to spend all day in the kitchen. Here's one of our (and their) favorites, given to me by my friend Daphne Martin:
Well, as they say, time flies when you're having fun, so we at the Down South Cafe must've been having a ball this summer! How about you? Do you think this year has gone by quickly?
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I hope you'll join me at http://www.gayleleeson.com and at my Facebook Author Page (https://www.facebook.com/GayleLeeson/) to take part in some upcoming giveaways.
