Christmas Tree Dilemma #BookGiveaway #SeasonsReading

by Mel Langston, from Sparkle Abbey's Pampered Pets Mystery series

It’s panic time! Christmas is only two weeks away and Grey and I still do not have our Christmas tree picked out and decorated. We haven’t agreed on anything, starting with the type of tree.

Real or artificial? Pine or Douglas fir? Full-sized or pencil? Flocked or not flocked? White lights or multi-colored? Traditionally decorated or fun and fanciful. And then there’s the tree topper. . . .angel or star? I'm dizzy just talking to you about it!

I must admit, at this point, the answer could be “his and her” trees. Two trees have to be better than no tree, right? Now that I think of it, this could the start of a new tradition!

What about you? If you have a tree, what kind do you have and how do you decorate it?

Comment below for a chance to win today's Season's Readings giveaway--your choice of a print copy from the Pampered Pets Mystery series. Entrants from the U.S. and Canada only, please. Please include a valid email address so my authors can notify the winner.
The winner will be randomly drawn and announced in the comments on December 14.

Sparkle Abbey is actually two people, Mary Lee Woods and Anita Carter, who write the national best-selling Pampered Pets cozy mystery series. They love to hear from readers and can be found on FacebookTwitter, and Pinterest, their favorite social media sites.

  1. We have a 5 foot artificial tree. We decorate with multi colored lights and a star on top. Our ornaments are ones we've acquired over the years. Some have special meanings or remind of special people or places we've been too. Also have strings of blue and silver garland and some blue beads that my Mother used to put on her Christmas tree. I'd prefer a print book if I were to win. dbahn(at)iw(dot)net

  5. We use to have that same dilemma so we solved it may having multiple trees - seven in fact. We had the 11 ft. revolving tree with all the Hallmark ornaments we had collected through the years. There was the little tree with our daughter's ornaments from when she was little. She's now in heaven. There was the chocolate tree where everything was chocolate themed. Hubby is a chocoholic. We love Wizard of Oz so naturally there was a tree dedicated to that. We both love to back so there is a little kitchen tree with baking related ornaments. Our chihuahua furbaby had his own tree and of course we had to have a tradition type tree. Now that we have downsized and moved to our dream destination plus we are much older making doing all that almost impossible, we now usually are happy with the chihuahua tree and decorations for our now 15 year old furbaby. The tree is decorated with hotdog garland, food bowl and fire hydrant decorations and the light up star on top is made of bones. There is also a chihuahua train that goes around it complete with chihuahua conductor and riders. It's a fun display and can fit on the 4 ft. square low table we have in the corner. I miss all the other trees but not all the work putting up and taking down.

Thank you for the fabulous opportunity to win a copy of a book from the Pampered Pets Mystery series!

  7. We have a 6.5 ft tall spruce but its heavily flocked! It is decked out in silver and turquios, fairly tradtional balls and some fancy ones as well and ribbons to match my wreath that is in my hallway and snowflakes everywhere! I am not the traditional red and green kind of girl! ( Can be seen on my facebook wall)

  8. I love the tree. We decorate our tree together. But things to our life together from my childhood. First are bubble lights my Grandma Bea always had them and I inherited those. Always has to have the silver tinsel. My mom and dad has always had it. Now for my own add is angels and snowmen ornaments. We do not do santa in our home. Christ is the head of our home. So beside it we have the nativity. He is the reason for the season. So this is 3 generations of making our tree. We have had 42 Christmas together. Can't wait to see what our children will add. I do know bubble lights are included in theirs also. Merry Christmas and hope you are Blessed.

  17. We have been ordering a white pine for shipping.
Unfortunately, the shipping fees went up drastically a few years ago and many (most?) growers have given up. The trees are now more than twice the cost they used to be.
It's too bad. We prefer the long needled pine and the fact that the tree is cut and shipped

  22. Growing up my neighbors always had a real tree.. 8' just shy of the ceiling. We had our Chanukah Menorah on the window sill.. They'd come in to hear me sing the prayers and light the candles and we'd share our presents... My friend Patty's uncle climbed the inside ladder up to the roof one year and stomped around waking us all up. We came into the hall only to see Santa Clause coming thru the opening. He had a pillow case full of toys for each of us kids...

Scoot forward till after my partner graduated Nursing School we'd help her best friend Debbie and her new husband build the tree from a box. We also did a wanna trade engagement and wedding presents? It worked out very well for both of us.

  23. My entire life we've had an artificial tree. For more than twenty years we had what we think was a 6-footer, that we covered in multi-colored lights and any ornament we had from snowflakes crocheted by a grand-aunt of mine to the latest Hallmark Disney ornament we had gotten. Unfortunately we somehow lost that tree when we moved almost a decade ago and for years have been making do with this little 4 ft pre-lit tree that we feel is too small to really fit any of our ornaments (but we weren't agreeing on a replacement big tree).

But this year may yet be different. About a month ago we finally found a big tree that we liked and grabbed it. It is an artificial tree that stands 7.5 ft tall. It was only after we got it that we became aware it may not necessarily fit easily inside our place (lol).

Things have been busy so we haven't gotten it up yet, but I'm hoping to change that within the next couple of days. Wish me luck while decorating it guys, it's a big tree (and I'm only a little over 5 feet myself). Here's hoping I don't break my neck trying to decorate the top!

Thanks for the chance to win. robbfan141729(at)yahoo(dot)com

  24. We had a real tree when I was little. Then we got an artificial. The last couple years we haven't put up a tree because we just don't trust the cats. I do have a small crocheted tree my mom made that I bought tiny lights and ornaments for.

  25. We've alternated artificial and real, always multi-colored lights, a variety of ornaments, no theme, just whatever is fun, what we've made, been given, collected, just liked. A couple years ago we got a Balsam Hill Balsam Fir artificial flip tree because we are retired and there isn't always someone close to help with a real tree. It's beautiful, easy, and we love it.

  36. Well...when we put up real trees, I always go for the biggest fattest Douglas fir I can find. Can’t be over seven feet tall though! I use a mix up of decorations...some were hand made by our children when in preschool...the youngest is 39 now...lol. Others are from my childhood...gifts from friends, whatever. You might find popeye’s Olive Oil hanging next to the Santa I’ve put on a tree since I was five..and I’m now 72...and always loads of lights. Our oldest son prefers his Artificial tree all in red and silver with each ornament in its precise spot. When we lived in England for my work, we just used a big artificial tree until Costco started selling Fraser firs..so for us it’s always been firs.I love that as they open up, more and more treasures are seen. Before the the move to England, we always had three trees..an artificial upstairs, the big Douglas fir in front of the picture window, and a smaller, like four foot live tree in the corner of the kitchen or in the breakfast room..we hung old cookie cutters, toy cooking utensils, etc on it. So having more than one tree is great..if your not 72 recovering from surgery! lol.

  37. We no longer have a tree. My kids are grown and gone, we really don't have the room, and we have three cats who think trees are for them to climb and destroy. LOL I do hang garlands and a wreath and I hang our ornaments on them.
