I'm not sure how many of you know me--or my farm. But I thought I'd write a little about it today, just in case this is your first time reading about it. Here's three things you should know about my farm.
1) Yes, Buttermilk Creek farm, is a micro-dairy farm. We keep three Red Devons, but only one in milking at a time. But the name comes from an old German family who first settled here. Their names? Butturmilch.
2. We are in the Shenandoah Valley of Va., outside Staunton, Va. The name of our community is Shenandoah Springs. It's going through a revival of sorts. All of the landowners and farmers here have taken an oath to use healthy farming techniques.
3. We keep cows just for the purpose of cheese. Yep. You read that right. I'm a cheese maker and like the idea of controlling the whole cheese process--right from what the cow eats.
