Spring Sprung, as Does Hope

by Lilly Jayne
from the Garden Squad series by Julia Henry

We're hunkering down here at the Windward. The house is so big that a dozen people could be here and we'd only run into each other at meals. That said, Delia and I are spending a lot of time together, mostly in the kitchen or the library. Sometimes you just need to be around people, you know? Even if you don't speak to each other more than a few times before dinner.

Delia bought a couple of puzzles. We've started one that will take us a while. A thousand pieces with no apparent edges. We've got a card table set up that's housing the puzzle now. Delia's setting up a second card table for the pieces, and she's sorting them by color. It's keeping her busy.

And of course there's the books. I have shelves full of them. The books in my sitting room, mysteries mostly, are double shelved. That said, how wonderful is technology? I can borrow a book from the library, or download a new one, in a flash. Well, a flash now that Delia's got me all set up. Is there anything more wonderful than finding a new mystery and realizing it's part of a series? The best feeling in the world.

Though today is the second day of spring here in New England, it's still winter. A milder winter than most, but there's still a chill in the air. So no gardening, for now. Still, I'm grateful for my friends and my pile of books. They'll both get me through.

Julia Henry writes the Garden Squad mystery series. Digging Up the Remains will be released in August, and is up for pre-order now! Sending you and yours my best.
