Still Baking for Our Spring Fling Giveaway!

By Lily Roberts from the Tea by the Sea series by Vicki Delany

Hang in everyone, this can’t go on forever.
I’m happy to report that Tea by the Sea, the afternoon tea room I own on Cape Cod is still in business, and even doing well even though the restaurant itself is closed.

Everyone needs a special treat these days and there isn’t much more special than afternoon tea.  I’ve been able to keep doing what I love to do most. Baking.  Delicious scones, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, tarts, macarons. All kinds of delicate beautiful tea sandwiches.  My assistants Marybeth and Cheryl have been driving all over the Outer Cape dropping off not only the food but also the tea settings (china, linens, even flowers) we’re renting out in order that people can enjoy afternoon tea in their own home. Some people are having it on their own, and some with their families.  I’m delighted at how many of my customers have introduced their young children to the ritual of afternoon tea. And the kids love it!

We’ve catered to groups of friends all sitting down and having tea together – in their own homes and sharing conversation (if not the actual food and drink itself).

I’m happy to report that Bernie, my best friend, is actually getting some work done on her novel in her isolation. Simon comes to work every day, and waves to me as he gets the garden ready for spring.

My grandmother Rose, with whom I live, is chomping at the bit wanting to get Victoria on Sea, her B&B open again.  Patience is not one of Rose’s strong suits.

Meet Lily, Bernie, Rose and the rest of the gang in TEA AND TREACHERY, the first in the brand new Tea by the Sea series coming from Kensington.

The book won’t be out until July 28, but for Spring Fling, Vicki would like to give one reader an advance review copy of TEA AND TREACHERY.   Please leave a comment below to enter. US and Canada entries, contest ends Saturday May 2.

  1. I have some fancy tea cups. I inherited them from my sister who got them from her husband's grandmother. I am always afraid to use them

  2. Afternoon Tea sounds like a lovely idea! Unfortunately, my husband always wants coffee in the afternoon and then we have a cup of herbal tea in the evening. This series sounds wonderful! I would love to read this book!

  5. I love afternoon teas. My mom and I were on a study abroad trip to England /Scotland a few years ago and we had, if our schedule permitted it, tea every town we stop at.

  9. I've always wanted to attend an afternoon tea. Your hat you wear would have to be very feminine and of course lacy
gloves and a Spring oriented dress. Thanks for the chance to imagine what I would wear. robeader53(at)yahoo(dot)com

This is such a charming idea. I had tea in Devon and scones with clotted cream and jam. I told a friend who would have ever thought I would fall in love with clotted cream? My Sister and I had a tea for my birthday because she knows how much I love them.

  28. What an awesome cover! So much to love about it from the lavish layout for the tea party with the every so slight hint of somethng no quite being right, the serene view of the boats floating in the water, and even the lighthouse keep watch in the distant back ground.
