By Lily Roberts from the Tea by the Sea series by Vicki Delany
Hang in everyone, this can’t go on forever.
I’m happy to report that Tea by the Sea, the afternoon tea room I own on Cape Cod is still in business, and even doing well even though the restaurant itself is closed.
I’ve been able to keep doing what I love to do most. Baking. Delicious scones, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, tarts, macarons. All kinds of delicate beautiful tea sandwiches. My assistants Marybeth and Cheryl have been driving all over the Outer Cape dropping off not only the food but also the tea settings (china, linens, even flowers) we’re renting out in order that people can enjoy afternoon tea in their own home. Some people are having it on their own, and some with their families. I’m delighted at how many of my customers have introduced their young children to the ritual of afternoon tea. And the kids love it!
We’ve catered to groups of friends all sitting down and having tea together – in their own homes and sharing conversation (if not the actual food and drink itself).
I’m happy to report that Bernie, my best friend, is actually getting some work done on her novel in her isolation. Simon comes to work every day, and waves to me as he gets the garden ready for spring.
My grandmother Rose, with whom I live, is chomping at the bit wanting to get Victoria on Sea, her B&B open again. Patience is not one of Rose’s strong suits.
Meet Lily, Bernie, Rose and the rest of the gang in TEA AND TREACHERY, the first in the brand new Tea by the Sea series coming from Kensington.
The book won’t be out until July 28, but for Spring Fling, Vicki would like to give one reader an advance review copy of TEA AND TREACHERY. Please leave a comment below to enter. US and Canada entries, contest ends Saturday May 2.
