The King and I

blog200 Here in Memphis, there’s only one King, and it sure as heck isn’t anybody from England. Yes, I’m talking about Elvis, y’all…

My name is Flo and I’m a walking, talking Elvis almanac. I can tell you just about any little fact or figure about Mr. Presley that you want to know.

That’s the reason I’m one of the Graces. The Graces are all docents at Graceland and we pepper our visitors with all kinds of fascinating Elvis tidbits… like the fact that the FBI has well over 600 pages of files on Elvis. Graceland visitors eat our trivia up!

I frequently get asked if I’ve ever gone upstairs at Graceland. I always tell them no way! Those are the Presley family’s private quarters.

But, just between you and me, I might have taken a peek up there when security was on a restroom break. Don’t tell a soul!

The thing that worries me the most is losing my gig at the mansion. Not only is Graceland my favorite place on Earth, but it’s also where I get to see the rest of the Graces. You wouldn’t believe what a great time we have cuttin’ up with each other!

Only problem? I’ve got a secret that, if it gets out, might get me banned from Graceland. I’m going to lay low and hope this mess just goes away—or that Lulu figures out something…she’s so good at solving problems.

How about you? Hiding any secrets?

  1. Yes, I'm hiding a pretty big one - one I just recently discovered myself. I considered telling Jack about it in a quiet moment in the story my author is currently putting together, but for some reason I held back...Not sure how my author feels about that... but I just couldn't share it. Not yet. Too many other issues going on. I'll tell you something for sure though: I will *never* tell my sister.

Secrets are tough, aren't they, Flo?

  2. Lord a'mighty, I have a doozy of a secret ... one that could ruin my whole entire life. And I'm pretty sure that Wendy gal is fixin' to blab it to everyone I love.

Authors can be such a pain in the patoot.

    Good luck, Flo. :)

  3. Hi Flo,

Secrets can be tough. Here's some advice I give the kids I counsel. Sometimes it's best to tell the secret yourself so you can put your spin on it rather than letting the whistle blower have that power.

  6. Hey look! Jack is here, too! He left the same comment on Mystery Lovers' Kitchen! That Jack sure gets around.

Trust me on this one -- he is *NOT* a Jack from any of our books!

  7. Flo, I've yet to make it to Graceland, but I think I have to get down there to meet you (even if it's in the pages of a book!)

  8. I've been guarding my secret for ten years, but now that the media is involved, I'm blown. How can I do my job with all this out there?

    Good luck, Flo.

  9. Grace--I'm totally with you, girl! You SIT on that secret, hear? Don't tell your sister about it or next thing you know, they'll be talking all about your little secret at the Piggly Wiggly or at the five and dime. No, better to keep it to yourself.

Bree--This is why we characters should gang together and do something about these blabbering authors! Characters, unite!

Skye--Ooohhh....that's actually some really good advice. I might have to think on that a little.

Dru--Secrets? Who..us? Um...Dru, honey, tell me how you've been doing lately. (Subject changing is always a good thing.)

Jack--Hmm. Well, thank you kindly. But if you don't have any secrets...

Julie--Son of a gun! He DOES get around, doesn't he?!

Heather--I hope you do. And I'll give you my best tour!

Sgt. Kiri Hunter--Oh, that stinkin' press! I don't have much advice for you, hon. Leave town, maybe? Cause that's what I'm looking at.

  10. Flo,

Hope to learn your secret someday! BTW, I love the Jungle Room -- might be a good place to hide, if necessary. Oh, and if security isn't looking.

    Good luck,
    Paige

  11. Flo - It's nice to "meet" you. I've always wondered what it would be like to work at a place like Graceland. I hope that Lulu can help you. In the meantime, about secrets? Well.... if I had any, I wouldn't tell anyone ; ).

  12. Flo's going to cause trouble, isn't she?

  13. Hi, Flo. What fun to work at Graceland and be around all things related to "The King." Too bad the darned secret thing has to possibly get you into trouble.

  14. Paige--I DO like the Jungle Room! But I think my favorite is the pool room. The whole room is covered--walls, ceiling, everything--in fabric. I feel like I'm in some kind of secret circus in there!

Margot--And that's one of those things that makes you so smart! As soon as we start hinting at secrets, everything goes wacky.

Alex--No sir! Flo is just *avoiding* trouble! Well...okay, maybe I'm just creating a *little* trouble.

Maryann--I'm already making plans. If I *do* get kicked out of Graceland, I'm going to reapply as a docent--in disguise!

  15. Great to hear from you Flo. I've been to Graceland twice.
I enjoyed seeing all of The King's awards and costumes.
Whatever secret you are holding back, don't you worry if it comes out. The Graces and the folks over at Aunt Pat's will stand behind you. That's the kind of people they are.
